i have a schumacher 90205 turbo 25 plasma cutter. I dont need it but it is wasting space in my garage just sitting there. It has some issues with the torch and i dont want to spend any money on it trying to fix it beause i have access to a cnc plasma if i ever need to cut parts. Can It be turned into something cool they way an arc welder can be turned into a crude tig welder. Thanks for the suggestions
Reply:To easy I would recommend fixing it up, selling it and using that money to purchase something else.Thermal Arc 210 FabricatorHypertherm PM 45and lots of other tools the wife doesn't know about
Reply:Hi, I can only have a guess, as I've also once upon a time thought about "converting" a plasma cutter I bought cheap at a junk yard auction to a Tig, then I sold the plasma cutter and bought something else, couple of years ago.I would think that as you have high frequency and welding (cutting) current present, it would be just a case of identifying the various wires to the torch and having a go, but you'll have to invest in a tig torch, gas bottle + gas + tungstens + fittings to make the tig torch couple up to the welder, and in the end you also need to have a foot pedal and gas control to enable you to get pre and post gas flow capability and a means to change from AC to DC etc.......as the man says, might be simpler to fix the cutting torch, sell it on and buy a caddy for about a grand......complete outfit, then get a gas bottle and the other bits and pieces. You won't get a warranty with a remake Tig, so if it fails it's virtually a complete throw away of the extra parts you "invested" in.You won't be able to test the rebuild without having the complete change over parts you need.Ian. |
