I am trying to build up an area around a piece of steel that has been cast into the mold. All it wants to do is kind of ball up when it gets to the steel, like it repels it. Is there a technique for this? Thanks,Ron

Reply:Might be a candidate for that alum braze filler using a flame torch or puddle with your tig. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bernzomat...4491/203710179Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:I wonder if you could simply flux it, and pour in some melted aluminum?
Reply:If you have a way to gmaw it with aluminum wire try that. You may get just enough adhesion for it to work. GTAW, for some reason just pulls away. Good luck and regards, Allanaevald

Reply:Interesting,thanks...the bernzo stuff looks like it may at the very least fill the voids around the steel.I wonder what would happen if you tried to tig over it...There is another product similar called alumiweld that i was just reading about, same process...I have no experience with any kind of aluma braze...Might be good for a filler, seems it would have some compression strength probably not any tensile strength...

Reply:I used aluma weld years ago on a out board motor ,used sheet metal as a form. The aluminum was thick ,the propane torch would not heat it up enough (@700)had to use OA to heat .Heat aluminum till rod melts on contact without the torch. Then keep heat on and fill in.good luck
Reply:You could always try dynamite. Yes you CAN weld aluminum to steel if you have a big enough hammer!RyanMiller Multimatic 200 tig/spool gun/wireless remoteMillermatic 350P, Bernard/XR Python gunsMiller Dynasty 350, Coolmate 3.5 & wireless remoteCK WF1 TIG wire feederMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeOptrel e684Miller Digital EliteMiller Weld-Mask
