Hello,I need some help deciding on an engine drive welder and I think I have it narrowed down to two choices:1. Miller Trailblazer 275 LP2. Lincoln Ranger 305 LPGThe reasoning behind choosing Propane is that I don't weld very often so there are long periods it will sit around, and diesel powered units start at about twice the cost. I live in the country so I have a 1000 gallon propane tank for the house, so I can refill off of that. I'd love to hear your opinions as to whether my logic is sound on this choice.I currently have a Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC stick machine. As farmer most of my repairs are difficult to haul back to the shop, so thats the reason for an engine drive.Does anyone have hands on experience with either or both of these machines? Are there any other units you would suggest? Thanks,BobThunderbolt XL 300/200
Reply:I have no experience with the Trailblazer 275. In 1982 I bought a Trailblazer 55D. Nothing special about it, just another welder!A good friend of mine has a 305G. Now it has a very sweet arc! It welds every bit as nice as my 1966 Lincoln SA-200 Red Face with SMAW. The 305G also has CV, so along with an LN-25 you can run Mig, Dual Shield, or self-shielded wire. I have a stand by generator that runs on propane. Amazing how clean the oil stays, and for the longest time too!Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Thanks CEP, I'm leaning more toward the Ranger honestly. The only thing that has me intrigued is the Excel power on the Trailblazer seems like it would save a lot of fuel (and noise).Thunderbolt XL 300/200
Reply:I've used both, (both gas units) the arc on the Lincoln was very nice, didn't really care that much for the miller.......that's my 2 cents anyways
Reply:The 305G is more inline with the TB325. 305G's are a very nice machine but the excel power will save fuel and engine wear. They'll both be superior to your Thunderbolt. For just the welding arc, the Lincoln gets the nod but it depends on what you're using it for.
Reply:Thanks Randall_H and Welder Dave for the replies. The guys at the LWS also gave the nod to the lincoln but basically said both are good machines.I can get the Lincoln for about $5400 and the Miller for $6200 (including $400 for Hose and LP Tank Mounting Assembly). For the limited run time I foresee, I don't think I will miss the Excel power too much.So I'm ordering the Lincoln today!Thunderbolt XL 300/200
Reply:I can't comment on the Miller, but the Lincoln is a nice machine.Zach
Reply:The Ranger is ordered, will be here in about a 10-12 days. I'll post up some pics when I get it.Thunderbolt XL 300/200
Reply:How much difference in price between the TB275 and TB325? Only reason I ask is because the TB325 is a closer match the 305G which would make the price difference even greater. From what I've heard Lincolns stand up to abuse a little better than Millers but if you look after your machine it's not an issue. Miller generally has the best customer service but Lincoln can be good depending on who you talk to. I think the 305G was a good choice.  They outsell the Millers about 5 to 1 here.
Reply:I didn't check the TB325 because I was only interested in the Propane models but good point. Funny thing is my LWS said they have much better luck with Lincoln than Miller when it comes to warranty/service but he also said they sell a tonne of Lincoln equipment so that could be why.Thunderbolt XL 300/200
Reply:Just picked up the Ranger. Will post some pics later...Thunderbolt XL 300/200

Reply:Picked up 50ft of 1/0 cable, stinger, work clamp and some quick connects. Now should I put a whip on the stinger and clamp or leave them as is?Also picked up an aluminum 33 lb cylinder for it, now I just need some time to fire her up!Thunderbolt XL 300/200
Reply:Let us know how she welds!!!Last year I gave $5475 for my TB 325 shipped to my door with EFI and Excel Power. I absolutely love the machine!! Crazy how little fuel it uses and so nice having 110v at an idle.-DoogieMiller 350PMiller Trailblazer 325 EFI w/ Excel PowerLincoln LN25 suitcase welderXMT 304/22a feederMiller Syncrowave 350LXMiller EconotigHobart Handler 140(2) Uni-Hydro 42-14Hypertherm 65 plasmaWEBB Gap bed lathe
Reply:I would definitely make a whip for the stinger with some smaller cable. 1/0 gets heavy after a while.Zach
