I am in the market for a new welder for my Home shop with a budget around 1500. I work on medium size equipment such as skid steers and on offroad stuff like Jeeps. Everything is mainly steel. I mostly Mig and some Tig (on a buddies Dynasty) and Stick welded once. These new Multiprocess welders that came out have my eye but I'm still unsure about them. I was looking at the Lincoln 210MP thats 999 right now or the Esab Rebal Or should I just stick to a bigger Mig only welder? I had my eye on a Hobart Ironman 230 at farm&fleet with decent reviews or would you guys recommend a different one in my price range? Thanks.
Reply:If you plan on Tig welding get a multi process. The rebel is what like 245 amps?? Vs 210amps on the Lincoln. If the added amps are needed get the rebel.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:If you're comparing machines like the 210mp and the iron man 230, I would say get the Lincoln.  As far as output goes, the 230 (250 amp) isn't going to do too much that the 210 (220 amp) isn't going to do.  But the Lincoln will do a lot that the Hobart won't do, in the form of tig and stick welding, and it's going to do it in a far smaller, lighter, more efficient and portable package.  But if you're comparing machines like the 210mp and actual big mig welders, like 300-350 and above, then it's a whole different question.   You have to ask yourself how often you'll be welding pieces above half inch and if it's worth the bigger machine.  If it's fairly often, then the big machine that can single pas the job and move on to the next makes sense, but if it's only every once in awhile, the smaller one will get the job done, but will take a little more time and effort
Reply:I'm old fashion, IF you want to mig get a mig machine. Check the specs on a dedicated mig and on the multi machine and see what works best.

Reply:+3 on the IronMan....That sucker grunts and is certainly in your price range...Shop it via web to maybe save a hundred bucks.I've got the 210 amp dual volt mig and the 250 Amp IronMan.....believe me it ain't just the 40 extra amps that makes the IronMan a total beast, it is more than twice the machine in every regard.

Reply:I agree with the post above about the ironman. I have the ironman and it welds as good as my 252 for a lot less money. I don't much like multi process machine because they are to damn expensive to get repaired. Just my opinion from my experience.
Reply:@ Paintballer1970 - Lincoln 210MP.  Was fortunate to run her in late '14 during training at Lincoln Electric.  Impressed.  Really nice arc quality with GMAW/FCAW, and on SMAW with xx18s.  Never ran her in TIG mode.  The "210" is priced right and will provide you the ability to rip multi-processes.  As others have said, if your heart's set on mostly MIG work then by all means score a more powerful Ironman.  Although we are a BLUE-centric outfit, RED gear is top-notch.  The RED machines have such a sweet arc.If your budget was in the $2.5k band, then would recommend a pre-owned Miller XMT304 CC/CV ($1.5k) coupled to a TIG torch setup ($400) & Miller S32P CC/CV suitcase feeder ($600) for a formidable alternative.  Stick + MIG + TIG. Reply:Man unless you are going to be welding a ton of aluminum, titanium, and all of those other weird alloy's, get the MIG.Big F**king HammerJumper cables & 2 marine batteriesJaws of life
Reply:you ever see a older woman with a Hugh purse who tries to carry everything around ??.i prefer small inverters i can easily pickup and carry one handed. i rather have a shelf on the wall that easily holds many many small welding machines rather than have a big heavy welding machine i cannot pickup. personal preference i guess from too many years trying to move heavy machines.any inverter that takes 2 hands to pickup is way to big and heavy for me..young welder/millwright often has big heavy roll around tool box often over 500 lbs........ older millwright has 2 smaller and lighter tool boxes under 200 lbs. after you get a hernia and bad back and bad knees you tend to have different preferences. you often hear 2 old timers compare what is wrong with their body today, sore back, sore feet, sore hands, sore what ever........ tough getting oldLast edited by WNY_TomB; 03-20-2016 at 08:46 AM.

Reply:The HTP-2400 is the best value the Lincoln 256 is next, for stick go with Lincoln Tombstone 250 AC/DCused or any TM 300/400/500/650 /300 TIG used they last forever Hobart & Miller all made similar models which last. You can hook up a LN-25 or 12 VS and run mig with them too. All inverter welders have a 5 year life when used heavy ,then blow up all brands. You can never have too big a welder. Little welders little work, not made for buckets and skid loaders.
Reply:Look at the HTP Mig 2400.  I have heard some good things about them.EDIT:  Oops someone already said something about the HTP 2400..  Sorry!-JessForney C5 Arc WelderLincoln Idealarc 250-250 Ac/Dc Arc WelderMiller Bobcat 225g PlusLincoln PowerMig 200Forney O/A Rig
Reply:Don't know if you're familiar with the Tweco (formerly Thermal Arc) Fabricator machines, but that 211i and 252i offer incredible power to size and weight ratios and are both very affordable. Either of those choices also offer (in addition to MIG) a fair stick welding arc and very capable scratch/lift start DC TIG. I've used the entire line of Fabricator machines less the 211 (but know many who have and love it) and none of them disappointed. That 252i will give you all the power you will likely ever need. Even the 211i is very powerful for its size and also allows for 120 VAC operation.Just thought it should be mentioned. If you have already ruled them out, for whatever reason, my apologies.Last edited by 7A749; 03-26-2016 at 10:38 AM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
