My welder SA 200 overheated and fried the rheostat. I replaced it, noticed the new one getting hot and I shut it down. I would like some guidance on how to proceed with troubleshooting and identifying the problem. Thanks
Reply:I would start with checking for a short in the blue wire from the rheostat to the main shunt coils. You should also check the resistance of the main shunt coils between the blue and brown wires which should be ~46ohms.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I was working on a welding machine once and replaced the reostat (sorry on the spelling)So I bought a very good ball bearing one and it would not work, so I went and bought a cheap one like you get at popular electronics stores and it worked perfectly. But Duane55 is right, there could be cause possibly other than the component that was ruined.AWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
