Walker Turner Drill Press Spindle

Reply:If it is less than 36" long, I would turn it on my lathe.  I recommend finding someone with a lathe or donor machine for parts.

Reply:Can you tell where it's bent? If you have a lathe you could start by mounting it between centers and see where it's out. It may take some time but you may be able to straighten it on the press.Are you sure it's not an issue with the chuck taper mount, it's not uncommon to bend at the transition between morris taper to jacobs taper as it's the thinnest spot. Of course I imagine you check the run-out with the chuck removed.
Reply:Walker Turner is Delta , dial indicate on lathe and straighten it out . Camshafts are strightenend between centers with a muffler chisel at Crane Cams.

Reply:If I can remember I will check as I scrapped something similar, but it did not have that tag, same brand though.
Reply:Never tried it but I would try mounting between centers in a lathe and put a dial indicator on it and find the center of the bend, both longitudinally and circumferentially.  I would then put the shaft in a press and apply pressure to the center of bend while indicating with a dial indicator to record how much deflection you apply.  You will have to keep trying to sneak up on getting it straight, you will have to apply deflection with the press slightly past the point of the shaft being straight to allow for springback, the dial indicator should let you know where you are at.  If that doesn't work getting a shaft made at a machine shop shouldn't be that expensive, however it may exceed the value of the old drill press.  Walker Turner drill presses were/are well regarded from what I have read on the internet.Please post back and let us know what you ended up doing."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25
Reply:Thanks for all the replies, I sent an email to Plaza Machinery, per Dunemetal's post, and I have contacted 2 other people I found online that deal in machine parts. I am waiting for a response.I don't have a lathe or mill...lolThis is a great drill press, so I don't want to abandon it yet, its rock solid and much better quality than some of the newer "plastic" drills out there. Reply:I just got a reply from Walker Turner Serviced Machinery, the cost of a replacement spindle is $93+15 to ship. Ill wait to see what some other qoutes come in before I make a decision.BTW, interesting video on shaft straightning. Reply:That spindle is pretty easy to make, but I'ld bet you'ld pay a lot more than $93 to have one made. I have the same drill press. Good old machine.
