g'day everyone, just a question for all the pipe weld ears out there, can I weld 106 pipe to an (I assume 4130) buttweld hammer union using 6010 for the root and hot pass? Any info would be much appreciated!
Reply:4130 is a (low property) chromoly, requiring by preference low hydrogen filler metal.6010 is't low hy.either basic coated rods (xx18) or solid core wire mig welding would be the preferred option.if your question is, will it hold with 6010, then yes, it will probably hold, as long as no large or dynamic load is applied to the weld.
Reply:No worries mate, ther will most likely be a fairly large dynamic force with someone swinging off a 10lb hammer, so I think I'll play it safe and get a mate who has a 6016 procedure all the way out to do the H/U for me. Thanks for the quick reply.
Reply:depending on the wall thickness of the 4130, you might want to consider preheat as well, though if it's fairly thin-walled, you should be fine.good luck! |
