This one is for my grandkids, it will back up to the couch in their den so they can sit there with homework, laptops etc and watch TV. Being the sparky that I am I put electrical outlets underneath as well as USB outlets, and threw in the remote controlled LED tape light for fun. The steel is 1X3 and 2X2 hammered 16 gauge. I wanted a high polish on this one which I got with one of these fitted to a grinder:For the clear finish on the metal I got some mtn aerosol (HVLP) from Ace Hardware, if you haven't tried it it's the best. It sprays like a dream and they sell different nozzles as well for different patterns. I will never use Krylon again. For the wood I got a butcher block top from Floor & Decor and cut it down on a panel saw and finished it with Deft clear oil based laquer. I am starting to like this, and I am getting faster at finishing them and smarter about keeping them square.Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.

Reply:Very nice. I really like the butcher block top. I'll have to keep that idea in mind. I've found it harder and harder to locate decent butcher block type material for projects. I hadn't thought of going and looking at a flooring supplier.Only thing I'm not sure about is the outlets. If they are up near the front of the table, I wonder if things plugged into them will be in the way when sitting in a chair. If the table is set up with them at the back, that would mean climbing under to plug stuff in, and my back doesn't do that well any more. I also wonder about the weight of some of these adapters that so many things have on the plugs today and if gravity won't be fighting you as the outlets loosen up a bit as they wear.1st thought would be outlets set up in the side of the table, but I'm not finding an easy instal solution for that right now, plus if it gets something next to it, that sort of eliminates those outlets. Best thought I have so far would be those really nice brass floor outlets they sell. That would allow things to be plugged in from up top easily, and the brass won't be too offensive to look at if it's polished a bit. They are obvious in the top however..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
