I put another chevy 180 T-stat in and it still wont warm up. It runs 160 maybe 170 if running hard, if below 65 degree 130-140. Have new murphy gauge, 1 year old I think. Temp. sender is on the side of head above the starter. Any sugestions? Reply:Hey JL,You could confirm actual stat operation in a pan of water, with an accurate thermometer. If running under load the engine temp is staying below actual stat opening temp, my thought would be that somehow the bypass hose is circulating enough coolant to keep temp down. However, that seems unlikely at 65F. As a crude test you could restrict the bypass and see what happens.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 01-20-2011 at 01:03 AM.

Reply:What I did on mind was to put a meat thermometer in the filler neck to get a true read , then go from there. You are right in keeping it at operating temperature, this prevents sludge and varnish buildup, inside of the mill . Make it run better, go longer. Hope this helps. |
