I'm looking at buying a used Lincoln Power Arc 5000 and I just wanted to get some other opinions on this machine. It apears to be in decent condition although the frame is slightly banged up. I know it works and the machine has a little over 200 hours on it. Anyone have one of these machines? How does it weld? is there any common problems with them? Thanks
Reply:Oh and I forgot to ask how much do you think a machine like this is worth?
Reply:I have had the Power Arc 4000 (not a 5000) for probably 10 years. It welds just fine (AC only unless you wire up some diodes and an inductor like I did). I am not a huge fan of the Briggs engine that mine came with, but it has never failed to start. My last big project I used it on was a complete rebuild of my boat dock. It was the only welder I owned that had enough power and was portable enough for me to get it down a cliff to the lake level. It did the job with no complaints. As far as the value of the unit you are looking at, I would expect to buy a used one for $600-700 if it was in good shape with the leads.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma
Reply:There are 3 of these for sale around me right now. 2 5000s' and 1 4000...I havent called about them, because its AC only. Not for me...800- 899.00 with leads. Dont know if thats a fair price or not, they look nice enough....Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120

Reply:Thanks for the info guys, I was thinking around the 600-700 dollar range myself. However this one will not come with any cables at all, just the machine. AC only is not my first choice either but it will do everything I want it to do for now until I can eventually afford a Ranger. I have a MM 211 also but want something I can use outside the garage, it won't work have to work really hard. Thanks again guys. |
