My 110v MIG died and I can get a used LN-8 complete with gas valve/gun or LN-9 with no gun, both are $350 each, but still waiting to see if either have the CC/CV option installed. Can it be wired to plug into any 110v outlet to run off my AC-225 CC machine? Looks like K240 kit connects 3 of the wires (gnd, 32, 31) to the 110v outlet on the Ranger, 2 wire (pin 2 and 4) from board to LN-x, 1 board terminal to welder electrode, 1 board terminal to LN-x electrode, see p30 of im604.pdf. I also have a Ranger 8 that I am still waiting for parts to fix, but the manual only has the LN-7 and LN-25 listed. Will the LN-8/9 work fine? Still need to find a supplier for K240.So I would get a K240 boards and make an external case w/quick connects to go between the 2 machines and LN-x.Any help or web links are much appreciated.Thanks.Last edited by ziegler; 02-04-2011 at 10:22 AM.
Reply:MIG no workee off an AC buzzbox, and shop feeders aren't a good choice to run off a portable engine drive. If you want to get welding quickly, I'd buy a small MIG.I wouldn't try to use shop feeders off a Ranger (unless they were free) since they aren't convenient even if you get them hooked up. I'd look for a VS suitcase feeder since you won't have compatibility issues with the Ranger. They are versatile. For example I connect my old Hobart Hefty to my ESAB 450i (I turn the original ESAB shop feeder to zero wire speed because I leave it connected for the CV output and control features) and run my leads wherever I like. I'm no a suitcase feeder guru but now I want more of them because they sure beat moving a MIG around the shop and yard!
Reply:At that price I would go with a Miller 211 or 212. I do not care about portability, I have the Ranger to run an off the grid barn. |
