Few Lincwelder 225 questions? - new here..

Hi Folks- first post..I've welded off/on for many years but only for my own use- building trailers,ect. I just got a old Lincwelder 225 (3-AS) DC welder Given to me. reason is the Onan (CCKA-S 1627 G) motor needs pistons. The bores are super shape. Was taken apart for bearings I believe as it had a rattle- And in process over period of time both pistons fell to floor and broke!..Before I got it of course. Question 1: Is this old welder 'worth' fixing Onan?  Question 2: If I look for doner Engine ( can't seem to get fan off crank to see output end of crank yet) Does this engine have a Taper crank? it is a lt.green engine so wondering if even was original?  Question 3: How do I test the slip rings using a Ohm meter..I know how to use meter..But no Idea what/where slip ring ends are? I hate to invest in motor if windings are shot. Supposedly worked thou. Guess one more- Question 4: Should I try to get Armeture out while motor is off and clean any rust (if any) off armeture and inside where armeture goes?..Big job getting out? - THANKS a million- sorry so many questions- You guys are the ones to ask thou.  Geno
Reply:Welcome to the forum.
