Hello, haven't posted for a while and thought someone might be interested in seeing a project I have been thinking about for awhile  I was at the local machinery shop a month ago and bought some goodies and this fork carriage from a forklift they scrapped out.  I have been looking for a decent price on a fork attachment for my skidloader and since they only wanted $100 for the forks and carriage I thought I could make my own.  The skidloader is a john deere 250 with 2100 lbs lift so they would have to be built fairly decent.  I have always wanted a winch also for pulling out stuck stuff also, namely the forklift, so I thought about how I could combine the two together.   The backing plate was built first from some scrap that I had laying around and then the forklift carriage was attached to the backing plate with some gussets and bracing to strengthen it up.  I left enough room for a 6 inch swing underneath the fork carriage and backing plate for a winch drum, motor and planetary setup.  The motor I had so that was no problem, most all the steel for the winch I had also with exception of the 3" by .5" wall drum pipe.  The motor is splined on to the center 35mm main shaft that goes all the way through to the outer bearing.  The drum rides on the 35mm shaft with 4 6206 bearings, 2 on each side and was splined on my rotary table to match up to the splines on the planets on the planetary system.  The planetary system is out of a 700r4 transmission with a ratio of about 3.33 to 1 so it provides quite a torque boost.  It all rides on the main shaft, the sun is keyed to the main shaft and the outer ring gear is  pinned to the carriage with a slide pin so it can be unlatched for free spooling.  The motor is approx. 5000 foot lbs and with the reduction it ought to have plenty of pulling power, if not I can always two line it.  Your welcome to comment, Ideas? ways it needs strengthened? redesigned? If it holds up to 7000 lbs I will be very happy,  that's the weight of the skidloader.  Thanks for looking.
Reply:More pictures
Reply:More pictures.  All welds were done with my xmt 304 and s74dx feeder.  Total cost this project was about $250 being I had the motor and most all the steel.
Reply:This will be great for tailgate loads.I used to have to deliver to places that had no loading dock.  Palletized, or otherwise heavy stuff, had to be moved to the rear of the trailer with a pallet jack, then offloaded.  It was a PITA.  With this, you'll be able to snag stuff that's far into a trailer, and pull it back to the tail. You'll have a winch for a small crane attachment if you desire. All in all, it's pretty f'n neat.Satisfy yourself that the fork-to-skidsteer mounts are strong enough to withstand the pull, and you're in business.  I have no idea how skidsteer mounts work, or are designed, so I don't have any ideas."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
