Hey,This MSC horizontal/vertical band saw is selling in my local area.  Just wondering the quality on this brand. I've never heard of them.http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/tls/3231831044.htmlI saw one of these sell for $500 on a texas auction site, the exact same saw. So that gives me an idea of price. What do you all think? Thanks,Brent
Reply:those are sold under several different names and most likly come off the same line in China, I have one that I bouoght a few years ago and happen to think that it st a fine cutting machine for what is paid for them.  In that respect I paid agout 799.00 new a few years ago as I mentioned, it would not be a matchup for a saw that runs thousands of dollars, but in its price range it will do the job and last many years if properly taken care of.
Reply:Thanks for the input.I had a feeling it might had been a china assembled saw.Ive been looking into a portable saw. What about the brand dayton?I mostly do automotive work, like exhaust, intercooler tubing, sometimes manifolds, really anything car related. Only for me and family and sometimes for friends.
Reply:I have one, owned 3 years ago. It is from Taiwan, and it runs every day, 2-3 hours, cuts fine without problems.Mauricio
Reply:so long as you take care of it treat it right keep sharp blades on and change the cooling, cutting oil as well as the gear box oil with the proper type you should be fine.  As for the dayton I dont recall wha it looks like but the same would apply.  good luck with your search.
Reply:MSC is a seller of machine tools and tooling and most of their house brand stuff is decent quality. Much better than HF stuff as it's aimed at the industrial user who will use this stuff on a daily basis and wants a quality reliable  tool at a reasonable price and needs a tool that cuts well without having to F with it as soon as they get it back to the shop. I know a friend that has had one in his shop for several years with no complaints. It cuts straight and works very well..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I have the N/T version, with a good blade, I have made probably 1000 or more cuts since buying it used a couple months ago... Reply:I've got a JET model that looks just like that.  There is a JET dealer in my area that sells JET items that have minor, cosmetic-only freight damage.  I paid $800 for mine.  Its a very good machine.  List price is twice that price, but I don't know anyone who pays that.Demonspeeder...what do you mean by..."It cuts within a 32nd"?  Doesn't make sense to me.  If you set it up for a cut X amount long, it'll cut to that length.  Cya!-AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup

Reply:the harbor freight version of that saw is on sale for $800 right now.  you can stack that with a 20% off coupon (just Google harbor freight 20% if you don't have one) so you have a brand new saw for $640.  If you wait till black Friday they will have a 25% coupon so you can get the saw for 600.
