I have a Pro-MIG 140 and recently got this spool gun only to find that spool gun's electrical connection is a 4-pin plug and the Pro-MIG 140 doesn't have a socket for it to plug into.  Looks like the Weld Pak 140 has such a socket. Is there any way to adapt the spool gun to the Pro MIG 140? Thanks for any assistance.
Reply:Did a little more investigating and it looks like the PM 140's (T and C) today have the plug but the older version (mine is around 5 years old) don't.  Is there still a way to retrofit it with the spool gun?  Thanks.
Reply:call lincoln tech support and ask them.you might be able to install your own plug and selector switch. That will switch the trigger and motor circuits. wire speed is still controlled by the knob on the front panel, That's what they do in the small power migs. The small power migs are set up so all you have to do is. Install a small harness that has a switch and plugs. and your spool gun is ready to go.
Reply:Thanks.  They included the selector switch and harness. I don't know if they will work on the older model.  But I'll check with Lincoln and see.  Thanks again.
Reply:hello all, I just got done with the conversion of my weldpak 155 without a 4 pin plug. It works good! the conversion involved opening the case and finding the drive motor wires (white and gray on mine) and cutting the positive and splicing into the negative. I added 2     9" pieces of 16 gauge to the cut positive wire and routed then to a 3 terminal switch (power from circuit board wire) to center tap on switch. the other cut positive wire to one side of switch. the third terminal to a 12" piece of 16 gauge wire.  now add a 18" piece of 16 gauge wire to the negative motor drive wire . run the 2 long wires through the case to the wire drive side. install the switch through the center panel into the wire drive side. create 2 more jumper wires for the trigger ,about 8" long. I got the 4 pin from the lincoln dealer for $16 (the pins are seperate)  conect the 4 wires to the pin connectors and insert them into the proper holes, by taking the spool gun plug apart so you can see the wire colors. the 2 white wires are the trigger wires and the red i think the red goes to the switch wire and the negative to the black. OH your welder must have shielding gas in it for welding aluminum. follow the spool gun settings for welding as the welders original settings for aluminum will not work.  i talked to a lincoln tec and they did not know any proven  way to do it.
Reply:Yea sometimes the factory won't help on a modification, if they didn't think of it first or if it is a older model. Although if what you do works well and the welder doesn't burn up and fail. Some of the guys like to know about it so they can pass in along. They tell you that they have heard if it being done with out damage.
