I know this is going to be a very basic question, but being new to tig (and self taught) I'll ask anyway.  The shop I work at has all their rod labeled according to the steel to weld with it.  ie.  A2, D2, 303ss, 01, etc...  But when reading through this forum I see so many different names & numbers for rod.  Can someone point me in a direction where I can learn about and get familiar with the types and names of filler rod? Thanks in advance.Steve
Reply:Maybe you could find a chat you could print out.  Possibly on google.??  Or figure out what they are and write them down and laminate it.
Reply:Read the side of each rod, write down a list and post it up.From there it's easy to tell you what you have - much easier than telling you every rod made.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 01-20-2015 at 06:57 AM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Thanks for the replies. Going to search the web more tonight when I get home. I looked at the roof we have and unfortunately it's .035 diameter so too small to have markings. It is color coded though. Red=d2. White=a2 etc...
Reply:Hello Stevev, check with your local welding supply and see if they handle ESAB's "Welding Filler Metal Data Book" or some of the other similar publications. There are listings of most fillers in these types of books and also explanations of their uses. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:If it is tig rod then it should have markings on it.  I have 0.30 316 stainless, it is stamped on both ends and also printed in black ink all the was down the rod.  I also have 0.35 316 it has one end stamped and black ink markings all the way down the rod.  Hope that can be of any help.
