Does anyone have a link to the video on youtube I think of Chucke2009 or Jody measuring wfs with a little measuring wheel on the drive rollers, think it was a hobart, and had a piece of paper behind rhe wfs knob with the ranges written on it?Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Reply:Not sure what tool(s) one needs besides a tape measure and stop watch. As much as I admire Lanse's YouTube accomplishments, I can understand why he has the comments feature turned off on this one. I'm kinda surprised he hasn't just pulled it.I said it when this video was first posted and I'll say it again, if you're going to use this universally accepted method of determining WFS then by all means TURN THE GAS OFF!Second, after a precision "guess" as to wire run-off length with a Carpenter's folding rule instead of the appropriate tape measure, don't just cut the wire off after every setting test - release the drive rolls and WIND THE WIRE BACK ONTO THE SPOOL so you're not wasting all that wire! And finally, I'd stick that probe right up his wazoo if Peter ever poked it thru my MIG gun's cable insulation!! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???!!! Use the output lug(s) you just pointed out! Oh, and CO2 in that wire data chart stands for Carbon Dioxide not 100% Argon just so you know.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Definitely needs a data logging oscilloscope then graph and do a linear fit for the voltage too. What an idiot, poking a hole through the MIG gun cable. Guess you can do that when you get stuff given to you for free. Seriously, Lanse doesn't own a tape measure??? Sent from mobile. Reply:The tool he used was like a miniturized measuring wheel like used for longer distances, and it read out in inches, pretty neat and to be able to use for other needsSent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Reply:"the correct amount of heat and wire speed to make x-ray quality welds.. . ."just to clarify, i do not mig-weld for a living and am not even good at it.i hate to jump on the band wagon and pick apart a you-tube video, but this part frustrates me a bit. though voltage is important to know, and is the only dial adjustment you get to play with as far as power goes, (well maybe inductance too), it has little to do with the final outcome of the weldment.guys want to monitor their welding, need to put a dc AMMETER to their lugs. with digital displays on xmt's and such it cracks me up to watch guys that think they're "hot" at close to thirty volts and their amperage bounces around in the low hundreds. THAT IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT! cause in that maybe slightly exaggerated case, they are doing it WRONG!i have a lot of fun whenever i do pick up a gun trying to monitor amperage. who cares what the wire speed is, if all you really need to know is higher, or lower to achieve desired amperage. do that for a while and watch your weld quality suddenly improve.bosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:This method only works on units that do not have a run in when starting. Units with a slow run in, are programmed to spool out wire at a much slower rate and then ramp up the wire speed rate once the arc is started. Any measurement made this way will not be accurate. Reply:To deal with ramp up you could start it and run for a sec the put the wheel down for predetermined time, then read it, but imo not worth it for meSent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
