When I get back from my upcoming trip I'll be buying a tig welder of my own so I don't always have to go to work to weld my projects. I need an AC/DC machine. Most  my work is with mild and stainless steel but I do get into my aluminum with some of my projects. I was considering miller's dynasty 200 dx or 280 dx and the ESAB caddy tig 2200. Honestly I'm kinda leaning towards the 280 dx. I might not need all 280 right now but it's nice to have.Miller Syncrowave 200Esab Migmaster 275Miller Millermatic 210Forney C-5Hypertherm Powermax 30
Reply:Did your sycncrowave 200 break?i would get the 280. Or a syncrowave 250 I bet you would never have a problem with it. I heard to many stories about inverters
Reply:I have a nice Syncrowave 250 I could sell you (I actually have 2 of them)Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:How much you want and what year?

Reply:If I could afford a 280, I would get that in a  heartbeat.   I would also wire in 3-phase power, since everyone that has compared Dynasty's on 1-phase vs 3-phase say that it is a big difference [in a good way, with regards to arc quality/smoothness]. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:I'll probably put it in CL for $3000, since everyone wants to offer half of what you ask for it seems. Then Al will add me to his CL crack smokers thread...   Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:My syncrowave 20 is fine. It's at the shop at work. I want a tig welder in my home shop too.  It's not easy to lug that thing into my truck.Miller Syncrowave 200Esab Migmaster 275Miller Millermatic 210Forney C-5Hypertherm Powermax 30
Reply:If your stuck on inverters the 280 is the way to go. Ask B. C. How he likes his. I think Robert hall has one too
Reply:I was reading a story on the Weldingtipsandtricks forum about a guy who tired to do the software update on his Dynasty 280 and "bricked" the machine. I couldn't help myself and commented that I  am glad they don't try and make me upgrade the software in my Syncrowave...   ;-)Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:The reason I'm debating  gong the inverter route is because of the amps I need to operate.  I know the syncrowave 210 only uses 30 amps (says miller). In my shop at our farm I'm good with amps and a syncrowave 250 would be fine. But I'm setting up another shop at my broad's garage.  Where I only have 40amps (50 if I run a new line). Not to give our entire family history but the farm is going to be sold in the next 5 years and I'll be building a 4 bay garage/shop at our house to hold all my goodies and toys. (2 Harleys a 64 SS Impala, 2 post lift and all my welders and tools which I'm not thrilled on moving) So to ask a question what amps are needed for the other machines that I listed or what you guys mentioned. Sorry I get side tracked VERY easyMiller Syncrowave 200Esab Migmaster 275Miller Millermatic 210Forney C-5Hypertherm Powermax 30
Reply:I am sure the inverters all require fewer amps than the syncrowave, but a point a lot of people forget is that the electric code treats welders differently because they have a duty cycle. For instance, most people hear that the syncrowave requires 100 amp breakers and assume they need to install 2 gauge conductor (lots of $$$), but in fact if the circuit is dedicated to the welder, you are OK using 6 gauge wire with the 100 amp breakers (per the code and the owner's manual). When I got my syncrowaves, I already had (by coincidence) a 240v circuit wired up with 6 gauge wire and 50 amp breakers. In theory all I need to do is swap the breakers for the 100 amp breakers. In fact, I haven't changed a thing and I weld up to 230 amps or so on DC without tripping the breakers. You might want to figure out what size copper you have sitting in the wall for your 240 volt circuit. it could be as easy as just doing a breaker swap to get the power you need.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Yea if the actual length if wire is short enough from the breaker to the outlet, 6ga will just barely eek by.  Its all about how much voltage drop occurs within the wire length that ultimately reduces welder output. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! Reply:Actually, from the Miller manual for the 1996 Syncrowave 250: 6 gauge conductor is good up to 158 feet. Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:If the difference in price is within your budget, the Dynasty 280DX is well worth being able to weld all day long at 200 amps without stopping.  The Dynasty 200DX won't do that. Very nice and upgradable machine.  I use a Dynasty 350 when I'm at the shop and I can't find a bad thing about it.  The torch has like a (D) shaped handle and i really like it.  The torch feels so good in your hand especially if you walk the cup all day, and it has one hell of a duty cycle (to me) especially on carbon.  I think you can get that (D) handle torch for the Dynasty 280 as well. Well good luck on your choice whatever you choose!!
Reply:Like I said the funds are there but I'm taking some of them on my trip. I'm leaving onthr 6th (1 week) and bringing my broad with me over there. Munich, Germany for 1 day and Sölden Austria from sunday the 8th till valentine's day. So bringing her along is costly but worth the fight I'd have if I wasn't with her on valentine's day. I'm bring 2500 euros with me from my "stash" whatever is left will go into my shop fund. I'm going to get a tig welder, band saw (convertible) and some wrought iron bending tools or a hossfeld #2 bender. So March & April will be my Christmas & birthday gifts to myself. Right now with the work I do I honestly don't need the 280 amps I'd get with the 280 dx but I don't want to spend the money on the 200 dx and then need the extra amps at a later date. I'd be mad at myself I didn't just pay the difference upfront and buy the 280. Asking people and you guys on the forums help me out because I am my own worst enemy. The good thing is that I always win the arguments I have with myself . Lol.Miller Syncrowave 200Esab Migmaster 275Miller Millermatic 210Forney C-5Hypertherm Powermax 30

Reply:You might be surprised just how nice the 2200i welds..(Beyond nice) Do a test drive of that one, and the 281. I have a feeling the Esab tigs will end up being Arcmaster units in the near future..(Depending how it all shakes out) Main thing with the Esab units, is just getting people to weld with them.. Reply:I've considered the 281i for sure. I don't know anybody who used one or has one to tell me how it is.  As for the Aspect 375....... I haven't seen any specs on it.  The 300 is a 3phase unit.  I will not pay for 3 phase to be wired into the house.  I need single phase.Miller Syncrowave 200Esab Migmaster 275Miller Millermatic 210Forney C-5Hypertherm Powermax 30
Reply:The Aspect 375 sounds nice but more comparable to the Dynasty 350. The Dynasty 280 is probably a better choice for home use on single-phase power, smaller and lighter as well.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
