I currently ave a 14" Ridgid abrasive cutoff saw and was wondering if I could simply put a dry cut blade in it? I don't have any experience with dry saws so forgive my noob question....
Reply:No the RPM's on the saw are too fast for a dry cut blade. All you will do is destroy the blade very quickly..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I may have answered my own question after checking the rpm rating for both Ridgid saws...abrasive - 3900rpm vs dry cut - 1300rpm. I'm guessing twice the rpm wouldn't be a good idea.
Reply:Thanks DSW, looks like we were typing at the same time.
Reply:Just found a blade that is supposed to work on an abrasive chop saw. Here's  link to their site.  http://cuttech.com/coldcut.htmlCheck out the second instructional video.Trailblazer 302Hobart Stickmate AC/DCLincoln SP 135 TSmith torchSpoolmatic 30A

Reply:so could a guy wire a rheostat in front of the saw to slow it down?Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:I'm not sure if you lowered the RPM's that way you wouldn't loose the power behind the saw at the same time. You might simply stall the saw as soon as it contacted the metal rather than having it cut.Shortarc, I've seen several blades supposedly designed to work like that one on a chop saw, but almost everyone who has used them has reported poor performance and a very short life span despite manufacturer claims to the contrary. I have seen carbide blades designed to cut steel studs like they show in the video, but those blades usually work because the material is very thin. They usually get destroyed as soon as someone tries to cut heavier stock..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
