Hello,I do allot confined spaced welding on ships-subs. I currently use a passive Leather hood I'm borrowing. I own a miller elite and viking helmets but they banged up bent at times when I need to stick my head into a tight crevices. Has anyone used the weld cap by optrel? How does it compare to a miller elite hood in size? Is the facial and side areas flexible? My next option is a tillman leather hood with a miller 2x4 auto lens installed in a hood from tillman.
Reply:I have tried it but does not work for me. The size is not much different than using a regular hood in my opinion. Yes, the face area under the lens and the sides are flexible, is made of fire retardant cloth. For work in tight places I made my own hood instead. Like a skiing mask to cover everything but used denim as material then used welding goggles. Works fine for me.
Reply:If you cold find something similar to this. Its much better for confined spaces. Is also available on ebay
Reply:Looks cool! Like an iron man mask lol. what's it called?
Reply:Maybe that's what Ozzie wears when he welds

Reply:Ok i got try out the arc 513 sevore goggles They fog up pretty quickly. Will have more info later. I'm still interested in the optrel weld cap. But for now. My leather hood amd arc one lens will do
Reply:The photos silvertina posted look fairly similar to the Miller "Weld-Mask".I tried on the Optrel weld cap and the only place I could get it to feel OK on my nose put the back of the mask really, really close to touching at my cheek bones and eyebrows. I am not claustrophobic but felt like something was in my space...you know, always wanting to brush it away?I am also not sure how the optics would be after longer periods of use, I have found I need to be pretty particular about things like sunglasses (for me it is usually the slight curvature, close to the eyes).
Reply:I sold mine and went back to 3m 9100xxx. Just didn't like the fit.V
