Hey Y'all,Not sure where to put this, but I know a few of you work in container repair.  One of my customers has some oddball 50-yd dumpsters that are using oversized nose roller shaft sizes of 2", and I can't find replacement rollers of this size.  The boxes have no manufacturer info on them.  The standard size is 1-1/2" shaft, but I don't want to downsize these because of the weight these boxes carry.  I've checked with Holtz (they don't offer a custom-making service), roll-offparts.com (their shaft mfgr hasn't returned their calls about this) and visited the other sites that come up a Google search - everything I can find is 1-1/2" shaft size.  I could have these made at a local machine shop but the prices are going to be pretty high compared to buying factory rollers.  Anybody have a source for a shop making nose rollers with oversized shafts? Thanks for any direction you can give.
Reply:Could you have the 1 1/2" bore rollers bored out to 2".  Shouldn't be that much.  You might be able to find a source for HRS or CRS in the right OD and have the ID drilled to your spec.Dan D.Manipulator Of Metal
Reply:Too bad you're not local man. I would be happy to drill them out for you on my lathe. Wouldn't be a big deal to make them from stock either. The scrap yard might even have rounds in the 6-10" OD range too. That would be a piece of cake.Like Dan said, buying pre made and boring them out would be the best option since just about any well outfitted machine shop could drill a set of those rollers out for you. I'm pretty sure they're mild steel. If there's any hardening done on them it's likely case and not very deep. I could be wrong on that tho. Worst case, get the billets and drill them out, but drilling pre made ones with the smaller ID would save time and be a pretty easy job for any competent machinist. If an individual one is under 70 lbs flat rate shipping wouldn't be expensive thru the post office. If you can't find a local solution, PM me and maybe I can help you out. If it fits it ships IMHO of courseLast edited by 7A749; 04-15-2016 at 02:05 PM.Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948

Reply:How much are they costing you ?  The one thing about making them is material cost if you have to buy a full stick, unless you are gonna make a bunch
Reply:We didn't machine the ones we replaced.  Just lopped off a piece of DOM with the bandsaw and knocked the sharp edge off with a flapwheel on a grinder.  We didn't fit them very tight either.  Maybe a 1/16" to an 1/8" inch slop between the bore and the shaft.  A few got seized up, but most were ripped off or otherwise damaged by pushing the tubs around with end loaders and fork lifts.  Straightening doors was another specialty of mine.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Lop off round bar drill on lathe find morse taper drills at flea market!  Good to go , did you price at warehouse my friend buys base plates cut and drilled cheaper than he can fab it.
Reply:I made a lot of them for a local garbage co. by sawing 4" shaft into 3" lengths then centering the lathe chuck mounted to a plate in the vise of the radial drill and rota broaching the holes. 2 pieces make a 6" roller.
