I'm making some mailbox posts to try to get a little business going. Got these done today and will try to get them painted tomorrow afternoon if it's dry enough and warm enough. Working out of my garage, I have to do my painting outside. Attached ImagesGraysOrnamentalIron.com
Reply:those are really cool. What size tubing do you use for the posts? You must have a plasma table to cut out the animal shapes.
Reply:3" tubing. I got someone else to do the animals for me. I don't have a CNC plasma (YET).GraysOrnamentalIron.com
Reply:Wow! It looks like they sell anywhere from $100-$350! Should be a good sell

Reply:Nice touch with the animals inside the decorative pieces. I like it. Did you make the curl parts (sorry don't know the exact name) yourself as well? I'd like to know how to do that as well, you've added a sharp touch to it. PidgeLooked at them again and was wondering what you used to cap them off? Looks good.Last edited by Pidge; 03-01-2015 at 02:02 AM.

Reply:Looks good. You might consider telling customers that your initial or initials could be added to the top , reflectors, address numbers , last name fastened to the tubing or a custom design . Do like the car dealers do , basic price and then they sock it to you in options.

Reply:Another line of options involves the bottom of the posts. In some locations, the bottom end of the plain post, maybe with a beveled point, can just be driven in to the ground with a mallet. Some installations involve digging a hole and pouring cement. But in others there could be issues with soft ground, hard ground, rocky ground, etc. Good to have options open for customers with these issues. Also, I'm thinking that it wouldn't be a bad idea to see if you can get a few demos into family owned garden centers. They often offer decorative items like yours.-Marty-
Reply:Very nice job! I like them!12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:I'd suggest having a "kid with baseball bat" version with a longer pole and reinforcements for all four sides of the box. Otherwise they look really good. That's the kind of thing I'd want in front of a house.
Reply:Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions. I'll try to get some "finished" pics once I get them painted.GraysOrnamentalIron.com

Reply:Looks good. Hope refine them and value them to bring a profit. How does the box attach? I used to make custom posts for new sub divisions. Started using HF scroll bender. Ended up making my own bender to bend heavier stock, because the thin material disappears from a distance.
Reply:I used to sell a lot of mail box posts through a nursery, about 40 a year. The most popular was with a spider web and a big spider in it.Your going to need to add some pieces of flat strap to the lateral bar to attach the boxes to. Look at a commercial one and copy it.
