So,This old welder of mine is suffering from balky and inconsistent wire feed speed. I think its due to the spool holding axle and the way it mounts/slides into the sides of the feed compartment. When I try to move the spool by hand I can feel a lot of resistance. All the contact parts (spool axle and the slots it goes in) are some sort of plastic (nylon?) that seems to be offering an abnormal amount of friction to the spool. I have checked the drive roller and tension and that seems to be in spec. with the manual.Should I lube these contact points with something? Graphite? Teflon base lube? Any suggestions would be welcome.Thanks,E.
Reply:There used to be a retro fit kit from Lincoln. But they are all gone.Just get a complete spindle assemble. then the sheet metal will have to be cut down.Side panel shortened and the lid lengthened. Might be able to attach the part cut off the side to the lid. Lincoln still sells all the plastic parts for that welder. side plates and axle (spindle).Doesn't cost a lot. New parts tiny bit of lube, good as new.
