any one have any trouble with the amp setting knob, mine works fine but it takes awhile to fine tune the output because it has mind of its own and jumps all over the place. is this common or is it just mine. any help would be appreciated.
Reply:I have noticed its never the same between turning the machine on and off but its steady while on.
Reply:Yep! Thought it was odd when I got the machine, but it seemed to work ok at higher amp settings (.125 aluminum and steel). Started having problems tiging at low amps-(20 gauge aluminum and 24 gauge stainless). Also noticed that I wasn't getting full amp at full pedal. The local Lincoln rep suggested I call the service department at corporate. Wasn't on the phone for 2 minutes when the guy said to bring it in to the local service center. Got the feeling I was bothering him, but also got the feeling this was a known issue, as he didn't hesitate to tell me it awas broke. Anyway, it's been gone for ten days, hope to here something about it today or tomorrow. I'll post the problem when they tell me what was wrong.
Reply:Machine came in yesterday. New mother board installed. Haven't tried it yet. If yours is doing goofy things, I'd get it to a service shop and have it checked out.
Reply:I noticed that with mine. It is doing other goofy things, took up smoking and the like, so it is at the shop, hope they fix that too.(the cap banks on mine were shorted out, so as soon as I struck a DC arc, pop pop, fizz fizz, oh what a releife it is...they blew up, smoke so thick I couldn't see across the garage, and now i'm sick from inhaling it.)
Reply:You need to start smoking them low-tar capacitors. They are better for you.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:THey just don't have that same smell...you know the one that lingers in the shop for three or four days?
Reply:I am new to gtaw welding, so I don't know if it's me or maybe the machine is screwed up, but I was practicing on some 20 gauge sheet steel...one pass would be perfect (for a beginner) good penetration, very little blueing beyond the weld area, no blow thrus or contamination. I go get a soda, come back and blowing holes thru the sheet steel, dirty contaminated welds (discolored according to my college welding manual) just awful. The stick welder works good, its a great improvement over the AC-225 I had.Its very difficult to pick up the nuances from a textbook. Anyone want to come over and give me a lesson or two on tigging...lol?
Reply:I got my PT 185 at the end of January 2006 as a birthday present. I had the same problems mentioned above within a week of the purchase and my dealer replaced the machine. This is a common problem with this Lincoln product. I have had NO problems with the new machine.
Reply:If you are out of warranty the amp knob issue can be repaired.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...d=1#post499519 |
