Hello all,I inherited this welder from my great uncle a while back, and my Google-Fu is failing me on finding any info about it. Does anybody have any info on it or know what it is worth? I'm a woodworker, not a welder, so it doesn't have much value or use to me.
Reply:The only thing I could find about the maker was a "Magic Wand" welder that was advertised in the late 1940's (magazines). I would guess that this is from that time, or sometime after. Considering it's age, I'm not sure I'd plug that thing in until completely checked out.Value? Not much, IMHO. More of a curiosity piece.
Reply:The same co made the Magic Wand suitcase welder. The autoformer type transformer put the hot side of the AC line on the electrode holder.BEWARE of this welder.
Reply:Fair enough. Any recommendations on how to dispose of it?
Reply:I'd take it...I love the old welder machines. You could gut a newer machine and install later model components in it so it will function a little safer and still look like an old danger boxBlue stock- shopmaster, a/bp330, maxstar 150stl, maxstar 210, hf251, Tbolt ac/dc, mm 135Red stock-ranger 8, weldanpower 150, idealarc 250 ac/dcEsab plasma, Victor OA set, Air products ac/dc 400 ampIt's me flipped in snow..doughnut fail
Reply:Wow neet will work now and for your grandkids ,where is it,?
Reply:I would look at the transformer and check to see if the primary and secondary winding have no connection to each other.I use a welder that is older and it works fine.Finding plugs to fit the jacks will be a problem. The Magic Wand uses brass plugs. My power line runs 122 and 242. |
