I've decided to buy a welder just to play around with in the garage. Anyhow, I'm getting a Miller 211. Right now they have a $100 rebate and it looks like if I spend another $500 for accessories, I can get another $200 off. I've got lots of tools but not really anything for welding. Just wondering what new accessories would be best to spend the money on. Also looking locally on craigslist. Thanks.jor
Reply:A nice helmet, good comfortable gloves & jacket or sleeves.

Reply:As above stated , consumable KITS are always handy, a cover , drive rollers for flux core, spool gun, wire, helmet and extra lenses and gloves . Get a PACKAGE DEAL from local supplier, machine and tank or tanks with CASH .  If you don't have time to build a cart that could be a option too. What about a torch set ??  OH, spending more money now.

Reply:I lied again..I did score a sweet running L Tec presto welder 130 the other day for less than 150
Reply:I already know it looks like I'm full of it... I've been welding since I was 12 or 13 years old. Have several family members in fab and machine work and it's all we have done for as long as I can remember. I just turned out to be an auto tech.  one of my cousins buys 2 or 3 new millers a year. he travels and it does pay for itself pretty quick if your work is desirable....hobby welding is expensive especially if you prefer the higher quality machines.

Reply:probably won't reach master welder status soon but I do like to weld, especially the stuff they say can't be fixed...more metal/mental issues inside I guess....thanks for the compliment
Reply:Thanks to all. I'm going to assemble a list from one or more of the internet sites and take it to a local shop and see if they will match it. I like the package deal idea.jor
Reply:Good auto darkening helmet and a jacket or sleeves (burns hurt a lot), wish I had invested in sleeves earlier than I did.

Reply:OP here. I headed into town yesterday and hit a couple of shops to see if they would match the internet price on the 211. The first one, a Miller distributor, would not. Claimed he only makes $38 on a 211 and assured me that the internet sellers had already deducted the $100 rebate. This of course is not true. On to the next place. They gladly matched the internet price so I bought the 211 and another $500 worth of Miller stuff so now I'll get $300 back. I ended up with a Digital Performance helmet, jacket, cap, a bunch of tips and a couple of nozzles, cart, welding pliers (not so good) and a tank. Just have to pay for the cart when it arrives. Then I can put in for the $300 rebate. Also intend to spend $150 or so for a table if I can find one on craigs. Anyhow, all told I will have spent about two Gs. Glad for the advice on buying locally as the guys are very helpful. Hooked it all up today and it works fine (on 220) so tomorrow I'll see if I can stick a couple of pieces of metal together. jor
