Simple vise stand.  17" truck wheel and a 60lb bag of "Quikrete" fast dry concrete.   2 1/2" square "hitch tubing" with a 3/8" top plate that the vise is bolted to.   I cut the top base plate out on the band saw and then ground it round with a flap  disc grinder to make it more "purrrty."   Welded out some rings that were cut from an old 2 1/2" diameter pipe so I could hang a hammer and whatnot on it.   Some primer coat and "aluminum" colored spray paint and was done in a few hours.   Pretty easy build and now I can move my vise around the garage as needed.   All done with 7018AC at 125 amps DC. Reply:I REALLY like that idea.I need one myself. I hate my big Yost 32C is mounted to my bench sometimes....It often gets in my way.I'ma add that to my gotta do list and try to finger out a way to mount easy retractable casters so I can roll it around, then let it squat like a fat chick

Reply:Clever idea and a great way to use up old rims
Reply:[QUOTE=NorOnt;5590021]Nice looking stand.  And vise. Might not need retractable casters.  Something like this should work for a vise as they do for a grinder.QUOTE] Trust me, when you are my age, you don't lean a rig over and attempt to roll it around because it will roll you around before it falls over on you and you end up reachin for your life alert button that's prolly layin in a junk drawer because you forgot what it's for, and if you remembered what it's for you forgot to wear it.I like the grinder stand too...Ok, another item on my gotta do list.I got more on my gotta do list than I did when I was married, but at least it's all fer me! Reply:I like the two swivel base idea.I never used one of these things but always disliked the idea of them. Heck I hate using one mounted on a flimsy work bench.
Reply:Super nice stand. I'm not sure it would work for me.  Is put something long in the vise and it would tip over.   Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler

Reply:Nice ! I love the pedestal uprights for many uses. I made a few with the receiver tube vertical for dropping in almost anything from a small vise, grinder, or a flat plate for a quick easy move around table. Here's a post on a bunch made by members, http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...=show+me+yours
Reply:Thanks fellas.   I must point out though that I already have a heavy Wilton vise on a fixed workbench as well as another smaller vise on a heavy movable welding table I have.  I just needed a big vise on a platform that could be moved around the garage, when moving the workbench from the wall wouldn't work. Also, moving this new portable vise around is easy with even a small harbor freight hand truck (dolly) .  It is heavy, but even my 13 year old can move it with the small dolly when the stand is pulled back and balanced on the Dolly's wheels.    I placed a 6' square hitch tube in the vise at one end.   Even when pressing on the far opposite end for leverage,  the thing didn't want to tip over.   It's stable enough for most things I need.  If it's not stable for something really large, then I'll use the Wilton on the work bench that's bolted to the wall.   "Hey I didn't come to look and learn, I came to turn and burn....
