If you had to choose one tool to be the best, favourite tool what would it be? and explain why!One one tool, mind you, I had to think long and hard for this as i've got quite a few tools by i guess my favourite has to be my Mag Drills. If i didn't have them it would make my jobs longer and more awkward.Whats your Favourite Tool??
Reply:If by favorite tool, you mean the one that's most indispensable, that would be my 18v Dewalt cordless impact driver. My cordless drill comes in a close 2nd.If you mean the one I love to use the most, that would have to be the CAT 988B we used to have. Though running the excavator was also a close 2nd and I got the chance to use that more often..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Probably what I use the most are 4.5" angle grinders.  I have 5 of them, and it seems that with just about any project, by the end, I have at least 4 of them out on or near my work table:one with a wire-wheel, one with a flap-disc, one with a cutting blade, one with an actual grinding disc.Check out my channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkz...bZg8AYNXGqBjZQ"Both oligarch and tyrant mistrust the people, and therefore deprive them of arms." - Aristotle

Reply:Lathe...just have a soft spot for a good lathe .  If I went with the one I use the most as opposed to the one I like using the most it would be my 1937 Atlas drill press (also like using it...just not as cool as the lathe).Favorite non-shop tool would be my 1911.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Ironworker! Why? Come on man its an ironworket for heaven sake. How much cooler does it get?
Reply:A hammer.  Why?  I need my hammer to align or pursuade things into place.  Nothing else works properly if it isn't aligned and it was a hammer (or some cousin called a  mallet) that assisted with that alignment. In theory if I have a hammer I cam make what I need to make every other tool.  I would venture to guess that a hammer was man's first tool, even before a knife.  Man used a hammer of sorts to chip bone or stone into knives and thus began the era of Modern Man.- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be my O/A torch. I'm just a hobbyist and most of my work/projects are done in the evenings or weekends when I need to unwind from a long day/week at work;  I find that using the O/A torch to weld is just a really soothing and relaxing experience which helps with that unwinding process.

Reply:Time and money being both in the first place. Nothing to do without some cash and no way to spend and enjoy such cash if you don't have time.I think that there are so many things/tools needed to perform any job listed under the Projects subforum that it just doesn't make any sense to state that any of them is the best or favourite. They all need to cooperate to make a project come together. That said, I would think that a good welding bench/table is a must if you want your projects to come out 50% straight. To achive the remaining 50% straightness percentage, you need to use your brain.Mikel

Reply:My favorite tool has to be my 1948 Southbend 9" Model A.I love pealing chips.RyanIt also has a big brother, a 1954 16" x 54" Southbend
Reply:It would be hard to imagine a tool collection without a welding machine, but the tool that I get the most joy out of using is my 1940 Atlas drill press. It purrs when in use. I bought it from an old guy that reminded me of my late grandfather. I have a late model Delta drill press next to it that drills holes just fine, but lacks charm.

Reply:Hands down it is my pneumatic rivet squeezer.  I install a LOT of solid, aluminum rivets and this thing is what I call "Magic."  Once you get it set up for the rivets you are installing, you just place the tool and squeeze once...perfect rivet every time in about one second.  I like using this tool so much that I will drill holes and fill them with rivets JUST to watch it do its Magic.  I particularly like the big red one in this picture...KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
