Here is a couple pics of the new (old) machine.  It's a 1967 red face. The engine runs Very good.  Welds like a dream!!!  Has a few leaks that I am going to fix, nothing major, but I want them fixed before painting.  I'm gonna pull the straight pipe and put on a muffler.  I am also gonna pull the engine/generator out of the frame so I can repair the sheet metal and frame then sandblast and paint.  Also gonna rewire all of the engine controls.  I don't like how they are arranged now.  The trailer has a good frame, but the welder is actually welded to the frame instead of bolted.  Tomorrow I'm gonna start cutting the welder loose from the trailer.  One question I have is did these welders have a temp gauge originally?  This welder does not have one, but I believe all of the wiring, and gauges have been redone at some point.  It has an oil pressure gauge, and is wired to cut off if oil pressure drops using an oil pressure light sensor.  it has an ammeter as well.  All are mounted on the engine, and I plan to move them to the face of the welder along with the starting controls which are now in the rear by the battery box.  Anyway I will keep pics coming of the progress.  I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I guess the trailer is strong enough!Nice find.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Thanks for the info 7A749!   I was considering trying to repair the hood, but I think considering it has been patched on before I will probably just buy a replacement.  The front panel is in pretty good shape overall, but the rear shroud around the radiator has two bad rust spots.  They are on the flat sides so I think I'll just cut them out and repair it.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I just replaced the straight pipe on my SAE 300 a couple days ago.  I found a tractor muffler at Tractor Supply that fit under the hood perfect.  Left the machine running and took my portaband and cut the pipe maybe 2 1/2 inches above the manifold.  Made the hole in the sheet metal where the original pipe came through a 5 1/2 inch hole (half inch bigger than the muffler all the way around).  The muffler barely sticks up out of the hole.  I cut down the extra stick-out from the top of the muffler and attached the rain cap.  Everything is solid and low profile for those low clearance jobs -not to mention, a lot more quiet too.  Take it easy. --Tye

Reply:I got a new aluminum faceplate for my SA200 from a shop in AZ. No numbers, you have to stencil your own existing #'s in. They have the new decals too. I was pleased with the products, prices and shipping all. www.decalshoppe.comOnly when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:I didn;t get a whole lot done today, but I did manage to start getting it cut loose.  First thing that went was what I would call someone's attempt at cable and bottle racks.  Then the lights that were welded to the radiator shroud.  Then I spent a little while just cutting various pieces off the trailer frame.  The trailer "frame" is OK, but I will have to do some grinding and re-welding.  The welds just look to bad.  Then I am gonna pull the tandems, and mount a single 5000lb axle.  I will say that after this afternoon I think it should be a law that if you weld something and the welds have to be cut then YOU have to do it!!!  All the welds on this thing are crap, and it's rediculously slow trying to get this stuff cleaned up!!!  Anyway here is the progress thus far.  I did manage to get a face plate ordered, and some tune up parts.  If nothing blows up tomorrow I can get some time after lunch to really work on it some.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Is there a purpose for the trailer to be that wide?  Or was it one that had a previous life?  Just curious, it looks a bit wide to me.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Mark, I honestly don;t know.  All I can say is it was the trailer that was under the welder when it was bought.  I really don;t know the history on it.  I am gonna leave it the same width, but I am going to floor it, and mount the bottles on one side and the other side will be tool storage.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Jackson,That trailer will be a tire eater!!!! lolI wish I had the time and money to finish restoring mine. It runs of course, but right now there are many things demanding what time and no money I have.  She's gonna have to sit tight till I can make it round to her.  I'll keep her cranked and maybe sneak her out for a job now and then. Reply:Well, I got it off the trailer today.  Also started removing the sheet metal so I can start repairing it, and getting ready for paint.  Tomorrow hopefully I can get the engine generator pulled out of the frame.  The radiator shroud has rusted out on the side, but I can repair it.  Hopefully I can start fixing it tomorrow. Reply:Also, I saw this piece of hose here, and am curious is there supposed to be a hose that loops between those two tubes?  It looks like it was at one time, BUT I really can't see a reason as to why it would be there? Attached ImagesI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:That piece of hose that's cut off there used to be the pre-heater hose for your carburetor. In the winter time it ran from the air cleaner to a tube strapped on top of the exhaust manifold. I'm sure you've seen them. In the summertime the hose stored where this one is cut off. I'd like a closer photo of the vacuum idler, specifically the cylinder It looks like is attached at the top. A type of grind-eze? This machine will look much better when painted. I think people paint them real ugly to prevent theft. Looks like you'll have something when your finished, too. Reply:This machine came off a farm, and the reason it's this color is because it was painted when they were painting their John Deere tractors.  The frame and sheet metal will be the newer dark gray, and the engine/generator are gonna be Black.  The sheet metal and frame I am gonna sandblast, BUT I'm still trying to figure out how to get the paint on the engine/generator off.  I may just have to wire brush it with a grinder, and steam clean the crap out of it then paint over it.  Thanks for the info on the hose.   Oh one more question for you guys.  The engine has a tag on the side of it.  Is the code on the engine and the code on the face plate supposed to match?I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Ok, well got it torn down some more today, I have the engine/generator ready to come out tomorrow.  I've decided to split the generator from the engine and send it to the motor shop.  When I pulled the wrap off of the brushes there was a nice rat nest in it, and some wires had insulation chewed off or dry rotted and cracked in places.  I'm gonna have them clean it up, and replace the bad wires.  Atleast I know the generator is in good working condition.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Perhaps while the motor shop has it a part would be a good time to get the paint off the generator???-- fredLincoln 180C MIG
Reply:Made a little more progress today.  Got the engine/generator out and now can start blasting and repairing the sheet metal.  Also have to separate the engine and generator so I can get it to the motor shop. I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Dad always drilled into us kids that if your going to do something, do it right or don't do it at all.Thats why I am the same way, just like on that weldanpower I am doing on another thread, when done, I want it to look and work like new.So I understand 100% what you are doing!Nice work so far Hammack!#1. Reply:Well, I ended up not separating the generator afterall.  I did pull the exciter housing and replaced the read bearing.  Haven't had a lot of time to do much with it, but today I did get to patch up the sheet metal, and get everything loaded up to be dropped off for sandblasting tomorrow. Hopefully my motor parts will be here tomorrow and I can get the leaking gaskets replaced.  Here's a few more pics of the progress.  The motor shop that I was gonna let replace the wires wanted to rebuild entire generator.  Well since she was already welding before I wasn't biting for that just yet.So after $7.00 at Harbor Freight for some heat shrink the wiring is now ready to go.  I put two layers of heat shrink on them so I don't think there's any need to worry now.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:I had a couple hours this afternoon so I went ahead and fixed the frame.  It had crap welded all over it that I cut off, and ground smooth, and then had to fix the radiator mount that had been cut, and the rusted out battery box.. Tomorrow all the sheetmetal goes to the sandblaster, and then I can start the bodywork and painting.  Engine parts should be here tomorrow so hopefully I can get the oil leaks stopped this weekend. I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Looks like your doing a world of good for the welder! I need some of the heat shrink tubing like you found at HF. We don't have one here and none of the auto parts stores have anything like you used. I can probably find it online if I look hard enough, tho. Your going to have a hell of a machine when your done.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor TorchesThanks, that's exactly what I need!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:Got a couple hours this afternoon to do some more work.  Pulled the exciter housing and replaced the bearing, and then finished up replacing or repairing the bad wires.  I also went ahead and wire brushed the exciter housing, and cover.  Then put a coat of primer on it before putting it back together.  Thursday I'll start replacing the main seals and front cover gaskets and cleaning the block and generator so I can get the engine/generator painted next week.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Today didn;t go to well for the rebuild. Started tearing the engine down to replace the rear main seals, and replace the timing cover gaskets. Opened the gasket kit to discover that it was not the right one. So I will be waiting a few days to get the correct kit. Then after cleaning the timing cover I noticed that my problem was a crack in the timing cover. So now I have to weld it up and repair it before putting back together, and to top it off someone has screwed spark plugs in the head that didn't have the correct thread on them.  I feel like I can re-tap the plug holes, atleast I hope I can! Anyway a few more pics...I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Man, if I ever took a machine down that far, it would be heading to the scrap yard. I could never get it back together again, let alone correctly and in good running condition. Sorry to see you have these added issues. Reply:I had that same problem on an old Ford V8 engine in a pickup truck, where someone stuck the wrong plugs in.At first, I couldn't figure out why the engine was running rough and 2 plugs kept working themselves loose, until I pulled one and found exactly what you found!I pulled all the plugs, found 3 different kinds in there, all wrong of course, cleaned the threads up and stuck the right ones in and she fired right up and purred like a kitten!#1. Reply:Well, I haven't had alot of time lately to work on the welder, especially since part was at the sandblasters, and I've been waiting on parts, and not to mention work, but I finally got the right gasket kit.  I went ahead and put in a new set of main bearings and replaced the rear main seal.  I found another timing cover that will be here tomorrow to replace the cracked one I took off.  Anyway I got the bottom buttoned back up, went ahead and painted the block.  Will have all the sheet metal and frame back this week and can start painting and reassembling.  I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Just noticed your post today and your work on an SA200.  Great machine, used one many years ago and a great workhorse.  Should have never sold it but didn't need that much horsepower any more. FYI I found a guy in TX that sort of specializes on parts for SA welders and has even made some modified starters, distributor kits and is full of knowledge on those welders.  His company's name is weldmart.com and if you call him or send him a note he'll send you a CD parts catalog as well.  Larry is his name. Also he has a full line of plasma torch consumables as well and treats you well on price for those.  Good luck on your project...jbman45Century 230A AC/DCLongevity 200 Multifunction MofsetLongevity 200PI Multifunction IGBTVictor Oxy/Weld&Cut5HP 2 stage compressorTractor; tools and 40  years of collecting fine tools.

Your work on this like the others in their threads doing rebuilds is awesome. I would love to find a old welder like yours and make it like new again.
