Any of you guys build some? How big can you build them? I really could have used one today about 13" x 1" for some stainless butt joints. Maple syrup pan that was an old comercial stainless sink that I had to cut and weld in a scab piece. I had some sugaring on back side I did put a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate behind help a little bit but I thing a purge box would have been ideal.
Reply:Not sure a chamber or tank would be worth the hassle.Something like this built to size should work.http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/...nless-tip.htmlhttp://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/gas-shielding.htmlOr, get some copper flashing and cut it to size and bend it to fit and use some aluminum tape to hold it in place, vwalla make shift purge block, hah.
Reply:Make a simple dam to clamp to the backside of the weld. Tubing cut in half lengthwise is all you need, tape off the ends. Purge that volume with argon, keep the gaps tight and just maintain a small positive flow while you weld so no air gets in. easy.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Thanks. I have some 20 ga stainless sheet that I'm going to use to form a tray and put a fitting on that will fit an argon hose. I'll build when next job Calls for it. So over time all have a collection. |
