Cat SR118 Skid Steer Blower,Not Very Well Designed!

This landed at the shop just before closing today, It's a little over a year old, 30 hours on it since the last repair. The last repair tore the fan shaft out . This will be the 3rd repair,our first on it, and hopefully for the customer the last. I don't know what they were thinking when this was designed, it's built rugged, but the fan motor is coupled with a doubled chain to the fan. As you can see it isn't anymore! The shafts out of line by almost .200 due to flexing in the tub.  We are moving the motor up top and connecting the sprockets by chain and an idler double locking the sprockets .Maybe it was  designed for only a few inches of snow,haha.  Attached Images

Reply:You're right ,and it didn't work either. I don't think they realized how much flex they were going to have between the  motor mount and the fan. The customers told me he looked at a new one today and they are still building them same way.

Reply:Are there many designs like that in the east ?  Very unusual to see fan shaft and screws being parallel...While you're there, the flange bearing is also to be replaced, it has been over greased seals are popped.  Wish this thing be stored til next december.

Reply:I looked at a few vids of that "cat" and really  ...not impressive, i had more confidence in the cat name before seeing that.
Reply:Yep.  It's all rubber with steel sleeves in the bolt holes.  The fabricated part is basically just two flat flanges on weld hubs.  I have drawings for the flanges somewhere.Last edited by Boostinjdm; 03-26-2015 at 10:07 PM.My name's not Jim....
