A guy I know has had a Lincwelder 225 sitting around for a couple years, I took a look at it & don't know if it would even be worth picking up or not. Last time the machine was run was 2 years ago, at the time the owner says the brushes were froze and it wouldn't generate electricity so he had someone replace the brushes, it has sat outside uncovered since. It has evidence of a serious oil leak, if you look in the pics you'll see the frame of the cart it's on is caked in oil. I know the old Onan engines can be a bit pricey to get parts for, it's going to need a new set of cables and batteries, the guy who has it actually owes me some money and many favors so I'm thinking I might be able to pick it up for less than $150, I just don't want to have to put a few hundred to a thousand into it to get it operational again. If anyone has ever had one or done any work on one I'd appreciate it if you take a look and give me an idea of what you think, thanks.... Attached Images
Reply:$50It is easier to go up than go down!!!He'll say BS and you'll say 'what do you want?" You then can really have the pricing discussion. You have looked on the net and seen the high and lows in pricing. You'll eventually get to the point where you will know how hard he wants to sell and you'll know how hard you want to buy. That is usually the point where money trades hands.

Reply:Just remember, the Onans' aren't cheap to revive. That was reason I held out for my Weldanpower with a Briggs, I damn near rebuilt this engine for around 150.00That said, I know the Onans are more reliable though...Just the leads are worth 50.00!!Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120

Reply:Thanks for the replies guys, I've done a little research on Onan parts and they aren't too awful bad, if I can pick this machine up cheap enough I think I should be able to stay within a reasonable budget restoring it.... Reply:Hopefully the rotor does not look like this. Auction item, represented to work good. The motor seems to be perfect. No weld or 110 output so I took the cover off. I am guessing that there are more problems.I will also start a new thread, "The rotor is toast?"John Attached Images

Reply:Disregard that one, went over boosted it and started it up today and it sounded like a rod was about to come out of the block and it lost about 2 quarts of oil out from around the head gasket while I stood there and let it run for 5 minutes........moving right along to the next project lol
Reply:You and JohnL need to combine machines---his unit has a toasted generator, but good engine and yours has a toasted motor, but a good generator (maybe) The two units might actually make one good machine.I just bought one in perfect shape from a Craigslist ad for $300 and only 20 miles away. I sure hope mine doesn't develop any of the properties of either of those machines anytime soon. Most of those units seem to have been left outside in the weather too often causing severe issues... Thankfully the previous two owners of mine kept it in their shops for it's lifetime...It's still in immaculate condition with no weathered issues...like corrosion or rust out. |
