Hey, I just picked up an old ac-225 and it needs new leads. The PO put long leads on it that are now falling apart. I would like to know what the welder originally came with in terms of gauge and length. I want to put those back on and will extend the input line as I have a 25ft 6-3 extension that an elec friend made for me. Thanks!
Reply:before i bought my hobart, i looked at the lincoln ac 225's. the ones at lowes at eh time (2 months ago) had # 6 leads on both the ground and the electrode. maybe 10' long. if i where replacing old leads, i would go as big as i could. my opinion.
Reply:Just go to you favorite LWS and get a 200 amp lead set kit. They come with clamp, holder, leads and lugs. Two large of leads will not fit through the holes in the case. The leads bolt on inside the case. You will need to remove the back panel.Undo the clamp plate on the front panel. Should not have to much problem. The AC/DC units take a lot more work because the rectifier shelf is in the way.
Reply:I put 30' #4 stinger and 20'#4 ground on my miller. Got tired of lugging it around to reach even though its on a cart.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:the AC225 has 10 foot leads. that gives you some mobility. I mounted the one I have on a cart, and keep the garage clean, so I can move it around. If you are going to replace the leads, I cant recommend enough putting long leads on there. 30 footers would let me go anywhere in the garage without moving the welder.Weldanpower 225 G7Ironworkers Local #24
Reply:You can always put plugs on your leads and have a short set and a long set.Tweco #1 or #2 style plug sets work well for this.Seen a lot of these welders with one foot leads ending with plugs. That way when you have to change leads, you don't have to open the case.
Reply:# 4 copper- both leads. For years and years, the standard leads for this class of AC transformer welders[Lincoln Miller Hobart Marquette Westinghouse GE Forney MidStates]either came with or sold as an accessory a #4 electrode cable 15-18 ft. long, a #4 ground cable 10-12ft long. In their manuals they all recommended lengthening the INPUT240Volt leads, NOT the welding leads...due to arc voltage drops that will affect the performance[arc starting, maintaining an arc, ect] of the welder.Century AC/DC 250 Amp & Midstates 300 Amp Industrial AC stick welders, Century Flux core 80 amp. wire feed welder Harris Oxy-Acet. cutting & welding outfit:SEE MY INFORMATIVE VIDEOS AT http://www.youtube.com/user/alpho52 |
