Hey guys, have a question.I have a Lincoln 300D with the Perkins engine. I let it sit for about 5 years since I last cranked it. I have changed the fuel and lube and all filters. I did find water in the base and flushed it out with diesel and new lube 3 times. I am now getting a good oil showing and the machine is running for 1 minute and then shutting down with the engine protection light coming on. I noticed that I was only getting about 10PSI on the oil presure guage. I pulled the lead off the guage and it have a very strong stream coming out, leading me to believe that I have a bad guage. I notice that the guage is seperate, meaning no wires connected to it, so that would not be the reason for the shutdown?Oil pressure is 10PSI, temp is 180deg, batt is 0amps. You guys have any ideas as to where I need to look. Kinda stumped, thought about buying an oil pressure guage to check the PSI...Thanks in advance!
Reply:Is the battery charge alternator putting out anything?. If zero volts, this is your problem.Lincoln uses this voltage on air cooled diesels as a test to see if the fan belt is good and the cooling fan is running. If the fan belts breaks this shuts down the engine before it overheats. There should also be a oil pressure and temperature switch near the oil filter. It is a single sensor with two connections.
Reply:Thanks for the reply ccawgc, I will check the alt when I get back home, even though it is a water cooled jobby. I was thinking this also but was not sure...I found the switch near the oil filter, sounds like I need to hook up a known good oil guage to verify the pressure. |
