Ok, So I'm getting a working lift chair from my grandmother. I hope to convert the lift mechanism into something that can lift at ATV with a max weight of 1000 lbs. I'm fairly certain that the lift chair isn't rated for 1000 lbs. Is there a lever or dump type mechanism that will help allow an actuator that's meant to lift 500 lbs. lift 1000 lbs.?There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:its called a lever. but you will not have the height of the chair lift. To gain the lifting weight you will loose the height. think of a sea saw heavy kid on one end bring the center closer to heavy kid and on small child can lift the other, but small child has to move longer distance. you will probably have to build this your self.
Reply:Pics or drawings would help a lot, there are tons of mechanisms but to double the capacity you will have to choose for half the stroke or twice the time.A bit of an abstract question with an equally abstract answer  some electric actuators can have their ratio modified simply by changing the screw and nut pitch's
Reply:honestly, I haven't even looked at the mechanism that lifts it yet. or looked in to what it might be rated to. so this could be a total pipe dream or a slam dunk. I'll know this weekend.I don't know if it's cable driven, gear driven, an actuator, or what. I understand the lever principal, but I also understand that there are mechanisms that double the length of a stroke on an actuator/cylinder, though they might increase the load as well. I'm ok with making something that two stage. Meaning a lever that engages a multiplier or something like that.Over complicated yes, but you do what you gotta do I guess. There are no problems. Reply:This I hope turns out interesting. It is not off to a bad start.

Reply:All I know right now is it's electric. lol. we'll see where it goes from there. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:For what purpose are you lifting the ATV? Just curious.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:You might be able to assist the lift with springs.---Meltedmetal
Reply:The chair lifts we had installed for mom after she lost her leg are only rated at 350 lbs. Weight rating is clearly marked on the sticker on the side of the unit. That's not to say they don't make heavier duty units, just what I've seen personally..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:not lifting the ATV to be able to ride it. to be able to work on it. Lift it up and have a safety that holds it up so that I can work on it at standing height. Basic design will be similar to a snowmobile lift  where it has the center pretty open for working on tracks and such, but lifts the machine up high enough to get the track off the ground and what not. I've seen a guy who makes them for his ATVs and it gets the machine up a lot higher than the hydraulic ATV lifts and the tires or not on anything like would be with a lift table. but he uses a screw mechanism to lift it. I'd like to try and use the electric mechanism if I can get it to work.  He uses a very large angle drill to get the lift up, I don't have one of those. There are no problems.
