I have a line on a setup I'd like your opinions on:  The CL add reads:  "This Miller Syncrowave 180 SD is an AC/DC Tig welder that comes with a coolmate 3, water cooler, flex-head water cooled torch, ground cable, petal, regulator, and full 155cf argon cylinder. The Syncrowave has 29hrs 25min of use and the cooler has about one third as many hours."  I'm assuming it's a foot pedal not a flower included  :roll eyes: but other than that typo does $2100 seem like a good price for this setup?  It does to me but I'm relatively new to pricing out TIG's.I'm looking for a machine that I could learn to TIG on as I've never done it (plenty of MIG work but not GTAW yet).  I like buying quality tools and know Miller produces them - my Miller 210 MIG is awesome.  Too I want something that will work for me through a variety of needs - from hobby stuff to automotive work, I work on classic Broncos mostly, and need something that can handle from sheet metal to DOM tubing work as well as Aluminum from time to time. Thanks for your thoughts!
Reply:Pic of the setup is below.  Another question I have is what kind of cart would you recommend for this?  Looks pretty heavy and cumbersome - add a bottle to it and it's going to be tough to move around?!?!?  Attached Images
Reply:I bought mine for $900 with no cooler, torch or pedal.
Reply:Sounds like you got a good deal.  The new Sync 210 is around $2500, and I think the Cool mates go for about $400 or so....but I realize the 180 is an older machine too....got me wondering if he's asking too much?!?

Reply:Thanks - what would be a good price for it?
Reply:To much for a entry level welder. A fair price would be $900- $1300.
Reply:Great advice - thank you!  Found this Lincoln in that price range - thoughts on this machine for my use?

Reply:The $2000 range would put you in the market for a sync250.From the pictures that sync180 looks really clean.  So I'd say that puts it in the upper end of the $1000-$1500 range. The sync180 is rated at 150amps at 40% and it tops out at 180amps.  I can see you wanting a larger machine later.  If you have the cash and the electrical supply, I'd go ahead and get the sync250.  The sync250 is rated at 200amps at 60% and tops out at 310 amps.  It'll do just about anything you want, for as long as you want.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:DSW has the price about right.  It does depend on where you are located in the country.  Also, if the tank is an "owner tank" and your local LWS will swap that size cylinder."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:I read this earlier quick, and after thinking now I would say yes it's slightly overpriced, and that is a great machine for what it puts out, I ran one for years, and the water cooler is a awesome add on and everything seems to be in pristine shape, but if you were geared to spend the $2100 you can get yourself the new syncrowave 210 that puts out a little more power, and it has it's own wheels on it so moving it around is no problem. No water cooler tho. I have a 210 and it's just a flat out great machine.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Ah, thanks guys - good info.  Not sure it gells anything in my mind though.  I have been eyeing the new Sync 210 (WelderMike's recommendation) and if I were sold on a new one that'd probably be the one, that or a Precision 225....   I have plenty of power in the shop I built, that's not an issue at all - 200A service to the building and I can run any line I need.  Currently have a 60A ckt for my Mig anyways.I agree the Sync on CL looks very clean - he says in the add it's lightly used.  I'm going to call him and chat.  I'm shocked at the estimate of $300 for the bottle to be honest but do know Ar is pricey.  There's a good LWS nearby that I am sure can swap bottles for me.Honestly for the price the Lincoln on CL for $1100 looks like a great "starter" machine, I won't often need to weld 1/4" Aluminum and rarely do steel that thick - use Chromo instead so I don't load up the weight on the Rock Crawler.  Most of my steel work is .120 wall tubing - though some steering stuff is .25 wall so I suppose 1/4" capability may be needed sometime.Great info from y'all - thanks!
Reply:If he's ever sold on CL before, he probably posted a little high because he expects lower offersSee if you can jew him down, looks like a nice package.
Reply:I got an old but nice Sync 250 power unit for $850.  By the time we added a Coolmate 3 and all the stuff it was about $1,400. without a tank of gas."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
