Finally finished out these stupid things. The finish welding was an absolute mess. Trying to do 11ga with 7018 is a real PITA. Not a big deal with flat welds, but a mess with uphill, and overhead. The problem was running hot enough for the 3/16 material, but keeping the heat out of the 11ga. I'm at 85amps with 3/32 rod. Any lower, and it's not enough for the 3/16.It requires a different pace. Focus the bulk of the heat in the thicker stuff, and do a quick weave/wash over to the thinner stuff. I'm forced to run faster than I like to (old guy thing)I was constantly on the edge of severe undercut into the 11ga, while having to FILL the undercut in the 3/16 (which takes a good pause). In hindsight........... Wire would have been a better choice, at least for my nervous well beingAttach the wood sleepers, put a coat of paint on them, and let them spend their lives peacefully"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:The 3" tubing was welded solid all the way around. The angle braces were slotted for drainage on the bottom because it's impossible to close them up completely due to the sharp angles, and the inability to get the rod into the acute angles where they attach to the beam."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Paint'em, Samm, Paint'em, If you want them to last. After all this big engineering problem you have had, you want them to last, so paint'em.
Reply:Yep..... those welds are terrible...... an absolute mess as you say.........One of these days I'm sure you will get the hang of it.....Stick with it..........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Get the Safety Yellow ready, Sambo.Slap a couple coats of that stuff on and it'll look as nice as Kikin's hair did when you helped her dye it.Personally, I woulda welded all of that stuff with 6010 or wire. Vertical up with thin tubing is a PITA. A couple of downhill passes with 6010 usually does the job for me Of course, I'm just a hack Looks pretty good Sambo. Your definition of a mess is my idea of a job well done Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948 |
