Spot welder advice needed.

My wife has it in her head to make some wire hanging baskets (well not some, bloody lots!!), plant them out and sell for a profit. OK, no problems. I can help her. My plan is to make simple frame wire basket and the only economical way I can think to construct it is to spot weld the wires together. I have not used a spot welder for nearly 40 years and my knowledge is very limited.I have not ye worked out complete details as yet, but I think wire of around 2mm.  So my question is what is the cheapest spot welder the could this job? New or used what do I need to look for, I am at a complete loss where to start, and don't want to go to a dealer until I had gained some knowledge so I don't get palmed off something that is over/under kill, or just old stock that needs to be moved.Cheers in advance
Reply:first you are going to want a water cooled spot welder. on a stand. Air operated. This set up will give you speed with out leg cramps.You might want to start with a simple times weld only. But make sure the welder can be upgraded to a controller. You might want to add it later if thing take off.A weld process controller will give you a very good weld with consistency. Simple timers are ok but if you have to hire some one to weld.old spot welders will be big and heavy and run by transformer. new ones are now using inverters and take up less space.As to new or used. Find out if the welder in question is still supported by a manufacture. Check with them about part availability. I looked at a spot welder the other day and the welder was good, the controller was worn out. Found out the manufacture had a team that would come on siteand rebuild the welder with a new controller. Only took a few days. The spot welder was made in the 1950 s.Find as many people who make and sell spot welders in your area. See what they come up with. Be prepared to send them a sample of the wire you want to make the baskets out of. this will help them size the machine. Or at least the spects on the wire.Good luck and post a picture of you make the first basket. upload it to this thread. If a link is posted they fail after a while and do not work.
