Anyone have any insight?  I bought a Grizzly 48" pan and box brake and I am realizing that if I want to be able to make the parts I want I need to be able to cut metal.  Looked at shears but a Beverley is about $750 - $1000 in the size I'd want so that's not too practical.  Plasma would provide many uses from cutting sheet metal to cutting automotive stuff, etc.  I like that it's easy to make circles using a circle cutter.Anyway - anyone have any feed back on this machine?Miller Diversion 180Hobart Handler 140 (Soon to be replaced with Miller 211?)Miller Spectrum 625 Extreme

Reply:Thanks - leaning toward Miller for rebate and free shipping right now. When it's rated at 5/8" max on Mild Steel, they say the gouging is about 1/4", is that true?  If so, do people just drill hole or what?  I won't be doing huge plate often at all, but maybe someday.Miller Diversion 180Hobart Handler 140 (Soon to be replaced with Miller 211?)Miller Spectrum 625 Extreme
Reply:At least look at the Hypertherm Powermax45. It will pierce easily through 1/2" and can edge start and cut 1" with ease. It has the longest consumable life and is made in USA.  Online pricing is usually similar to the Miller....and free shipping is offered by some dealers as well. Reply:Just a correction....the Hypertherm units are called Powermax45 and Powermax65. Cutmaster is the brand name for the Thermal Dynamics plasma cutters!Jim Originally Posted by killdozerd11I had a Miller 625 Extreme ...No complaints worked greatSomeone stole it or i would still have itThoughts about buying a new one ...Looking at Hypertherm Cut Master 65But my business is portable repair mostly but i do other kinds of work also Take a look at the cut master 45 also

Reply:Checked out the Hypertherm and while they look nice, man are they expensive.  The other issue is that I like to be able to plug in to a 120v outlet... which they don't seem to be able to do.So, still looking at the Miller 625.  If everything plays out with some transactions I might order it Friday or Monday unless I am swayed another direction.Miller Diversion 180Hobart Handler 140 (Soon to be replaced with Miller 211?)Miller Spectrum 625 Extreme
Reply:Welder supply.com has great prices on Hypertherm.I would recommend you not get a 110v plasma cutter....underpowered. You could probably get a used one for a good deal..put the word out you looking for one.J. E.
Reply:All online distributors for Hypertherm are authorized factory distributors. If you shop around you will find the same prices for the Powermax45 as for the Miller 625. Check out the forums for user satisfaction....you will hear why the Hypertherm's are the bigest selling plasma systems in the world. Consumable life, reliability, made in USA (yes, even the torch....you might want to check the Miller torch!), best factory afetr sale support in the industry...I admit being a bit biased...as I have been with Hypertherm for over 35 years...Jim Colt Originally Posted by Jon KWho are good online distributors for Hypertherm?

Reply:I always forget about tax......there is no tax in NH! No income tax here for that matter either!Good luck with your purchase.....if you decide to go the Hypertherm route remember that I am always here to help you out!best regards, Jim Colt Originally Posted by Jon KNot a huge fan of used - I know you can get good deals and all but I just like knowing I have a warranty and all.  I am a hobbyist and so I will use it mostly in my garage (which currently only has 110v, but will have 220v when I move in April) but might bring it around to buddies to perform work.  I don't intend to use it only on 110v, but I need the option - its the same reason I went with the Diversion 180.Thanks Jim.  I will call my Air Gas and see what they can do.  Right now the 625 is like $1550 with a $78 rebate shipped free (no tax, no shipping).  Kind of hard to beat.  I think the nearest I found was a Powermax 45 for $1750 plus tax putting me close to $1900.  I guess this is the part where I have to debate if its worth the difference to me and if I'd notice any difference or not.
Reply:I agree with John K, hobbyist need versatility, you can cut 3/8 and server 1/2 on 120V plasma like an Esab 400 or a Hyperterm 30, so been capable of doing this and use the same machine on 220V to do even more look like a smart choice if the price match.Hobbyist are less concern by consumable longevity since we don't use the machine 5 days a week, same goes for is TIG choice, he don't need all bells and whistles, he just need a machine enough versatile to do some aluminium and steel when need and capable of using any single phase source available..His choice makes sense to me as a hobbyist myself .PS: I admit being a bit biased too but not because I work for Miller, just because I like the color I guestLast edited by OldSkull; 03-07-2013 at 03:23 PM.Miller MM211Esab Mini Arc 161LTSEsab Handy Plasma 380Duck tapeTy- rapKool-aid
Reply:Welder supply.com or cyber weld have the best prices.  Just ordered a hypertherm pm 30 from weldersupply.  I thought more about the brand and model than I did about who to marry...... Good luck.  I hope my plasma cutter lasts as long as my marriage.  LolJay
Reply:I own a 625 and do mobile work you can't beat it. At just under 20lbs it is one of the lightest tools on the trailer.  I have never had a reason to cut more than 1/2 with it, and it cuts that like butter the only thing that affects the cut is me.  If you plan to take it mobile do your self a favor and get an inline filter for it. Also I think you would enjoy the case. All together a well put together machine from Miller.  Good luckWalt
