I havent been here in a while but though I would come here and ask as I know there are several here that like to shoot,  I want to start to anneal my own brass as I cut and form my own 300blk brass usually from once fired ar15 brass.  When the brass is cut to form it is usually cut right at or below the former annealing line.  I have had a few cases split in the neck when I was loading them after cutting and forming them, and event though I am saving mony by getting 223/556 brass and doing it myself I dont want to loose any after all the work had gone into make the brass, so hence the desire to anneal.  If any of you have set something up please post it I know there several annealing set ups out there but would like to get the price down if I can.Thankshyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.
Reply:Resizing:Neck-Only Size x 3 firings, then ANNEAL, then Full-Length Size x 1 firing.....then Neck-Only Size x 3 firings, then ANNEAL, ad infinitum.  Neck-Only dies, w/ custom bushings; bullet seaters; and SS Case Trimmer by L.E. Wilson, Inc. (Cashmere, WA).Annealing:Deprime, Clean (SST, 2hrs), ANNEAL, FL Size, Trim (as req'd), etc.  Brass holders used for annealing are CNC'd 6061-T6 sockets.  Interface to right-angle, variable speed, Dewalt drill.  Torch is small Butane variant.   650def F Tempilstik used to determine dwell time, but typically 7-8 sec of fire during annealing. Note, deep well sockets also work equally well.  An exacting (tight) fit between the brass and holder is not required. Additional clearance will not cause any issues, unless the brass starts to precess during powered rotation.  Rotational speed should not be ludicrous speed, but rather Using the above resizing and annealing protocols, have achieved 10+ uses per 270WSM casing and 7+ uses per 300M casing.  Brass by RWS (German) and Norma (Swedish).Although there are several high-speed low-drag auto annealers on the market ($$), still prefer the manual alternative.  Simple and equally capable, IMPO, just at a reduced production rate.Send it!   Attached Images"Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:Not mine but here is a home built model.https://www.youtube.com/v/0-C-i0Kr2jUGo to AR15.com>Armory>Reloading>DIY Annealing MachimeTwo turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:I have done alot of reloading , havent gotten into resizing yet, I have a few oddball calibers I have to first find the resizing dies for....interesting stuff though....Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:What's your process for 300blk conversion?  I don't anneal and all the guys on 300blk talkb are of mixed opinion on it.  I've converted over 50k pieces and haven't had any neck splits although i use lc brass exclusively.  I've got 10+ loading on some brass.223 and 308 get annealed every 3rd shoot on a giraud.
Reply:I use the jig from the person on 300blk the enclosed jig on a harbor frt mini cut off saw then chamfer and debur then resize then chamfer and debur again.  I prefer redding dies for all my reloading.  I have only had one neck split on me while reloading, but it did give me concern as to the future chances of it reoccuring when reloading the brass.  I as well only use LC brass that I get from midsouth, after all the processing they go through a wet tumble with stainless media.  the jig that monoKia posted looks nice did you make that yourself?  if so what would you want to make another? Are you rotating the brass insomething other than the trimmer you show?  Or what other method do you use to rotate or does it sit still in the jig while moving your flame around the brass?  Thankshyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.
Reply:I use the giruad annealing machine, load it up and let it go while I am working on something else.Walter

Reply:You could use the old method of standing the cases in a tray of water. The necks are heated and tipped in to the water.Old reload manuals describe the process.I have not reloaded ammo in several years and just scrap split neck cases.Hard to find powder and primers now.
Reply:where I am located now in Tn there is no problem with powder or primers I have several pounds of of 3 different types of it along with primers ect, I currently us a system that is slow but looking for something that is a little quicker but might not cost a ton of money to build or buyhyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.
Reply:I would just put my brass on the heat bar of an electric stove, neck down. By the time I got all the way around the spiral to the center, the first ones I placed on were ready to be picked up and dropped in water. Goes pretty fast.
Reply:Load my own for many different firearms, including 3 wildcats ( not avalible commercially) and 4 that can be fireformed, but can also be purchased. Don't keep a total, but it's 1000's of rounds per year....My process is to anneal after 5-7 firings, that includes my semi-auto which require full length resizing.....many good annealing setups for under $500 that can do combined case annealing, but "is it worth it" depends on how many rounds you fire a year, and how much time and effort you want to invest...Would have to "see" your process/set-up before I could comment on "your paticular issue"....Best of luck,Andy
Reply:I am going to be working on getting the giruad for the 223 and 300blk and the 308 that we shoot, with the 300blk I form all that myself there has only been 1 occasion when I have bought a box of ammo for it, we have not been shooting as much as like to be, but that is going to be changing soon.hyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.

Reply:sorry about the misspelling, those are sweet if you ever want to get rid of them I think we are related somehow and you could leave then to me hyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.
Reply:@ Ron Padilla - no worries.  Believe the SAAMI spec on your 300 AAC BlackOut has a brass base OD of ~ 3/8".  Would sell you my 2ea 270WSM aluminum annealer holders; however, IDs are ~ 9/16" ID.  The excessive tolerance would be uncool during rotation.   As previously mentioned, try out a basic deep-well  socket......sized to fit your "300" Attached Images"Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:I will probably go with the giruad as we will have so much that we will be annealing that I want to ba able to work on something else as they are annealing thanks for all the input.hyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.
Reply:The Giraud is the way to go.Check out some of the threads on Snipers Hide(I think it is) on how to change out the regulator and be able to run bigger bottles(like 20lb gas grill bottles).  The regulator that comes from Giraud sucks and is hard to adjust.  There is/was a big thread somewhere on what to order in order to get much better control of the flame.
Reply:Thanks for the heads up I'll do that, I know that there are a few guys here in TN that use the giraud I'll check with them as well and see if they have updated theirs as well.hyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.
Reply:Since I do it infrequently and in small batches I anneal by hand.  Annealing 223 brass I use a cut-down 308 case as a holder, chuck it up in a drill, and spin it in a propane torch flame using a metronome as a timer.  Works fine. That said, a friend sent me a video of a very ingenious homemade annealing machine:Tim

Reply:Another nice homemade annealing machine:I tried annealing but was having case splitting problems.  Later I read you're supposed to anneal before you load the cases. Reply:so much work to anneal the cases.......
Reply:The more I look at the different ways to do it the more I change my mind as to what machine but i an thinking I might have it narrowed down to 2 I hope.hyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.shaynoak, you should see how much work goes in to making 300blk brass, so I would like to keep it around for as long as I can hyper therm, esab, miller, a 22,380, 45acp,  223. 308, 12 guage and a 9 mil the 45 is for ccw, a 9mil will kill the body, the 45 will kill the soul.
