Weding Project Help!!

As a welding project I've decided to create something from a video game; Kingdom Key from Kingdom Hearts.However I've just started welding and don't know what metal to buy and start with. I can buy metal from Amazon because I recently received a gift card for Amazon. Any Ideas how to start?
Reply:I wouldn't buy metal from amazon because your money will go a lot farther at a local metal supply store unless you live out in the middle of nowhere.  places around where I'm from will let you go through the scrap stuff and buy it.  Do some more research and checking around.  What kind of metal to start with depends on the type of welder and cutting equipment that you have.  Also post your location so someone from your area can give you some pointers on the best place to purchase metal.Syncrowave 210HH140Victor O/A
Reply:If you want it to be pretty heavy, you can make the main shaft and handle out of a single piece of roundstock with a little lathe work. Otherwise, you can use pipe and cap off the top. I would use pipe or drilled out roundstock for the hilt pieces. Then use plate for the hand guards and the key teeth. Easy peezy. Done in probably a few hours. For artistic effect, you could then electroplate the hilt in brass and wrap the handle.
