Is the maxstar 150 a good machine. i was thiunk of buying the stick and tig  package. any info would be great. i have a sp 135 t right now and i want a bigger machine to do heavy stuff?
Reply:I don't know either one, but it doesn't look like it's that much of a power upgrade.  If you're just looking for more power get a 220v MIG.  But if you want just slightly more power but want to spend your money on adding TIG and stick functions, then you'd look at the Maxstar.Hopefully someone who owns a Maxstar will spot this.
Reply:I absolutely love the older Maxstar 140 STR.  But I've heard from owners of the newer 150 that it doesn't do 6010 or 1/8" rods well, whereas my 140 loves everything I've given it, through 1/8" 7018.  I just ran a perfect 1/8" 6010 (5P+) vertical down with it last night putting a steel rack on my welding trailer.
Reply:thanks alot guys. i just went out and bought the maxstar 150 and its great. its good for me to start on figuring im only 15 but its good machine. i use it to do fabercation on formulia contenantel's. i also got the foot pedal. for anything that this little machine cant do we have a lincoln 205 tig. but thanks alot for the info.
Reply:TNB,Glad to see you are in the shop welding, and not playing gameboy or X-box.  But you may want to spend a little time with your spelling and syntax.Sincerely,ShadeLast edited by Shade Tree Welder; 05-21-2004 at 06:29 PM.Ron ShopFloorTalk Millermatic 350P, M-25, M-40 gunsDynasty 300DX, Coolmate 3, Crafter CS-310 TorchTrailblazer 302, 12RC, WC-2430A spoolgunSpectrum 2050Thermal Arc Plasma Welder PS-3000/WC-100B
Reply:Well, with regards to the 6010 and 1/8 rods: Just picked up my 150 last weeeks, so of course I had to 'make sure it works'Ran everything  I threw at it, in 3/32 and 1/8, on 120V (less than 100A on the dial) except  I didn't want to take a chance with 1/8 7024. The 7018 beads were a tad cold (I think it's going to need 240V for this) but the 6010 were just fine. Little sticking on the starts, smooth arc, good burn in.
Reply:I ran everything that you ran but i ran it on 220v and it ran great for a little machine Then i tried tig with it. it ran great i thought. made a braket for the rear ran light on the contiental. It's just a good allround machine for the $$.
