I have a stubborn Weldanpower with a one Lunger Briggs, the carb is giving me fits the last week. I've replaced: head gasket, bottom half of carb, main needle, pilot needle, float needle more recently the coil and plug.It runs great for a short while, then decides to chug and stall.I can't burn a full rod before she's acting up. Tomorrow I'm cleaning the new carb, and re-checking the float bowl for the 3rd time. Main is about 2.5 turns out, pilot same. It's like it's running out of gas....and I'm running out of ideas.Oil is new, compression is 125lbs, sparks like striker with new coil. Air gap on such is .010I've removed air cleaner and blocked it off with my hand to clear the jets and lower body...Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:Did you take the carb off and put it into cleaner ?Did you blow out all the holes with air ?Have you checked the float for holes ?Have you checked the float level ?new plug wire I assume ?Cleaned the top half of the carb ?Test the spark condition after it is hot ?Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:YesYesNoYesYupYesAnd no to the last, i just put a new coil in it, with new wire & boot. Cleaned magnet on flywheel too. Will dig further tomorrow...I don't suspect bad gas yet, but I have added sea foam too tank, maybe that was a bad idea....Last edited by MadMax31; 08-05-2011 at 07:28 PM.Reason: ElaborateLincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:Is the fuel line clogged?
Reply:Jones, an excellent question... a partially blocked fuel line (or inside the tank screen)  would allow the carb float level to be proper when starting... then gradually not be able to keep up with the demands of the engine.... starving it of fuel gradually... then since this is a gravity fed system... build back up when the engine is off... only to repeat the symptom...I am betting you get the prize.Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:Partial winner...Tore fuel system apart, shut-off valve and filter good.End result, scrapped the Viton Tipped float needle. Installed aluminum needle and separate seal into fuel inlet bushing. 3 hrs burning 7018 no stalling, spitting or coughing, just flat 3600 RPMs my friends!Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:What was wrong with the Viton Tipped float needle ?  Or was it the sealing surface it contacts ?How about the parts numbers for what you did ?... as you can see I have the same machine....Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:I bought all my parts from Partstree.com, original Briggs parts. The replacement needle kit came with both needles and directions that said if your old needle has a Viton tip, use Viton tip needle, well it did have a Viton tip, so thats what I used. It has been causing me these issues I guess, smaller aluminum needle requires little green seal in order to work, and it is. I'll get part number from kit in morning..I suspect the larger Viton tipped needle wasn't allowing the required volume of fuel needed. As it would always fire right back up....Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:If you don't already know this you should, the main jet in those carbs runs up through the bowl and into the body on a diagonal. You must remove the jet before dropping the bottom bowl of the carb or you will damage the jet.   If it helps that carb is also used on a lot of Giant Vac leaf blowers 8 HP and bigger. helps to find gaskets and jets on short notice at the local power equipment dealer.Last edited by kolot; 08-15-2011 at 12:16 AM."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:hey dere;On them Briggs engines, some say to "lightly" tap the needle into the seat, to effect a better seal. I had one like that and the oly way to make it right was to boil the carb out and make real sure it was put back together right. Glad you got her runnin! I love my WP with 16 HP Briggs as well.
