Hey guys,I'm in the market for a new hood. I've had an Optrel Satellite for quite a few years now. It's been an amazing hood, it's one downside is it's weight imo.I have 3 herniated cervical disks compressing my spine a little under 1/4" along with nerve damage. It makes working very difficult, but I'm not a quitter. OOP is very difficult, but I make it through. The Optrel was pretty heavy in that respect, and I found myself grabbing a HF helmet for some work because it's so much lighter. The optrel had been giving me some trouble for a while now, but it's got to the point it's dead now. I've done some work on it in the past, but it's earned it's keep, that's for sure. The Miller Digital Elite and Titanium 9400i look good to me. But I'm open to suggestions!I do everything from low amp tig to lots of migging at 200A+, and while I don't stick weld often, when I do it's usually 20+ pounds in a sitting.Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders

Reply:I have been using a Lincoln k 3028 (or something) great helmet very light and large view, bigger than my sons Miller Elite. The model k30xx (something around that) is a 4 sensor I have been really impressed with it.Over $100 less than the MillerLast edited by JPS; 03-23-2013 at 04:28 PM.
Reply:The Miller 9400i is a great helmet, it's my daily helmet but i've had a few nights that I had such a bad headache I don't know if it was from the weight or maybe I overtightened it. Other than the weight it's a great hood. I love that it has auto on/off and the integrated grinding shield. Like I said, it's heavy but you get used to it. But it might not be the hood for you due to your injury. If the weight is a problem I think the Speedglas SL would be a good choice, it's super light, the only thing I can see that might not work is the small viewing area http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...tion/SLShield/ Here's one of the cheapest places i've seen with it http://www.amazon.com/3M-Speedglas-H.../dp/B003TLWEC4"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself.
