Reply:I've been lucky to have one of my customers make my hats for me for the last 20 years or so. She likes all kinds of yard art so we swap out. It's a good deal for me but I hate making yard art crap.

Reply:You guys never cease to amaze me!!!  Not only can y’all weld well…. you can obviously sew well too. Impressive.... very impressive.  I think it’s great so many of you are taking up the “needle”. --Way to go gentlemen!!!!--Colindstarck> Niiiiiiice Day of the Dead Fabric you picked out for yourself.  The stitch you used around the rim is actually called a blind hem stitch. That was a great stitch choice for that area of your cap. You done good… real good!!!! --TIGguy> “Do you spray the material with fire retardant?” No…. it's not a product you could easily get your hands on and aside from that.... you wouldn't want to be breathing the fumes..... just check the end of the bolt to make sure the fabric you select is 100% cotton and you should be fine. Oh oh oh.... and try using only cotton thread as opposed to polyester or a polyester wrap. Polyester is much stronger than cotton and after several washes.... can begin ripping your seams apart.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:TIGguy> "I use a spray flame proofing product by Turning Star, Inc. after I wash my green welding jackets." I did look up the product... The FG-200 looks good, http://www.turningstar.com/non-toxic...re-retardants/. Here's the MSDS on it.... Sure  beats the heck out of its predecessors!!! Great find and affordable to boot!!!! I've got the same jacket you've probably got only in blue and I think I'll spray mine BEFORE I try my hand at stick welding.  --If you're using 100% cotton and cotton thread on your cap, you should be okay although spraying your cap with that product would certainly afford additional protection. --Notsooldordum> I dunno who your welding cap "model" was but.... you couldn't have picked someone better. His expressionless face is priceless. --FORTEALLOY> "Actually a great class, has allowed me to create, repair, line, reinforce, modify, or alter hundreds of items over the years. No regrets." Totally agree. Our schools don't offer home economics or sewing classes any longer and most are doing away with shop classes (woodworking, auto repair, welding). The only reason our boys know how to cook and sew is because they were exposed to it through Cub Scout and BSA scouting programs and then I helped them and the only reason they can balance a check book is because we got them in and sat them down and showed them. How to budget and live within one's means these days by repairing, re-purposing, and making do without isn't touched in our public schools unfortunately. And the lack of classes teaching our kids how to change a flat tire or a windshield wiper is a blatant disservice to them.--Pfaff is a good solid machine. There's a zipper foot you can buy for it... amazon probably sells it and if you purchase it at the same time you need to order other smalls and can get your order up to $35, shipping should be free. There's a really neat trick out there replacing a zipper and getting a professional look.... the next time you have a garment that you're not all that attached to.... try using ½” scotch or masking type tape as a seam guide while lifting the back of your machine up with doorstops to minimize the glare from invisible tape.--Another little trick regarding the pedal that might make it perform like a TIG pedal would be turning it around the wrong way and using it backwards. Depress the opposite end with your foot as opposed to depressing the low end. You can garner more control that way and it's less likely to "scooch" away from your foot on a tile or hardwood floor.  --"You threaded the machine wrong. Here, let me show you..." Hey!!! Were you a fly on the wall when I 1st tried replacing the spool on my 211>>>?  Come to think of it... I needed help again the 2nd time too.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:My mom has been making my welding hats for the last 10 or 15 years. She copied them off the Comeaux brand hats I used to wear. Well, she's getting on up there now, so I figgered I should learn how to do my own and stop bothering her about it. I went and had her give me a lesson, and I have about 5 under my belt, now. They get better every time. Started out pretty rough. I like the spacey one the best.Attachment 940791Last edited by TimmyTIG; 12-17-2014 at 10:13 PM.
Reply:timmyt; good work. the dragon/polka dot hat is nice. if you make them to sell i'll take a few.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny flaWell, you would be my first customer. I'm not the world's greatest sewer, that's for sure. But, I could give it a shot.Take a measurement around your head with one of those flexible tape measures, and one across the top from where the ear comes out of the head. I could do the first one and send it to you to see if it fits before doing any more.Last edited by TimmyTIG; 12-18-2014 at 07:39 AM.
Reply:You can have two panel brim or single panel. I usually like the two panel, but that big dragon looks nice on the one panel.

Reply:Those look like cycling caps.something like thesehttp://www.walzcaps.com/Never thought about wearing one of my cycling caps under my welding helmet, but they fit under my cycling helmet so why not.  I generally just use my hair(what I have left) to catch stray hot metal bits.  Kinda like when smoking a cigar my ash tray is usually my lap.
