I'm a very poor self taught home welder. Usually I don't do too badly. (Though I'd never get hired to do a job   ) But today i find every bead I lay is just a string of slag inclusions: metal, slag, metal, slag all along.  Never been that bad before. Why? What's the most probably cause, what's the technique mistake I'm making? Using 2.5mm GP rods on 2mm black steel horizontal lap joints with small stick welder.

Reply:PHOTOS! need to see the weld to really give you an answer. site prep, speed, amprage, rod, angle, arc length. all of these can cause the problem, but in order to give a good answer we need to see the full picture. list the materials, the welder, the rod/wire, the settings, etc. The more information you can give, the better answer you will get. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
