hello everyone,i joined here hoping someone could help me out. i have a lincoln sp-125 plus. the thing worked awsome. It was stored in my dads basement on the floor and the city storm drain backed up and put 3in of water into the machine. I tried to use it the other day and this is what happened. First. the wire would not come out. i took apart the motor for the wire feed and cleaned the rollers. it fed the wire like a champ. when i tried to weld, it would go about 1 inch and the whole machine would shut down. wait 5sec. and do the same thing. the wire speed and volts worked though. after a couple tries of this the wire would not feed again.can someone please help me out or put this in the right forum if this is not the correct one.thanks, mike
Reply:release the pressure roller. If the motor will run correctly. Then the liner inside the migun is rusty. replace liner. Loosen set screw in power pin and pull out liner. Have gun straight. Blow out gun and install new liner. before cutting liner install brass diffuser. with gun out straight cut liner flush with end of diffuser. use a side cutter and not a cutting wheel.split coils, bend to 45 degrees and cut. Install tip and nozzle and try to weld.If the welder is working right. the drive circuit is seeing to much motor current and is going into safety shut down to protect the motor and the pcb/
Reply:thanks.could it also be the wire feed motor? or the transformer?mike
Reply:On these units. They need 115 volts to power the fan and weld transformer. When the fan powers up it has a second winding that supplies 24 VAC to the pc board. It runs the electronics and the trigger circuit. In the trigger circuit there should be a thermostat that is mounted to the weld diode heat sink. If it got wet and rusty It may have to be replaced.I did have one of these in the shop the other day that acted like yours. It turned out to be the push button circuit breaker on the back panel. It would open up with out tripping. I used a jumper and a current meter to confirm it. Bypassed the breaker with the jumper and measured the current in the jumper. The welder stayed working while welding and was able to see current come and go in the jumper. Proving the breaker was bad.Be careful testing and have fun.
Reply:baught a new spool of wire and new liner. the when pulling the trigger i the wire did not pull the wire. i took out the motor and hooked it up to a battery to test. the motor only did a hum. so, i am assuming the motor is shot. does anyone know where i can get a motor and for how much? the motor is a merkle-korff industries    5252-c    30000   M15431u.can i clean the transformer with distilled water. it looks like it has a little rust on it but it may also be the glue?thanks
Reply:Should be able to get a new motor from Lincoln. It looks like the motor has rusted solid. You have nothing to loose by trying to free up the motor and get it to work for a while.A little rust eating oil of your choice in the motor, remove the motor from the drive and see if you can turn it by hand. Once you get it to move, then put 12 volts on it and run it a while,If it survives put it back together and run it. If the motor has carbon brushes try not to soak the brushes to much.
