i have an IdealArc  Tig 250/250 Variable voltage AC/DC arc welding power source with high freq. stabilization.  ive had it for a while and i weld here and there but ive come upon a couple questions over time i cant find answers to so i came here to ask your expertise. i searched the forums first though.so here we go1. is it CC, CV, or both?  SN: AC-674380   2. There are 2 control switches, one to toggle inert gas and stick welding,  the other is a spark control switch with on, off and start only.  i dont understand the purpose of the off and start only positions. some help?3. if it is a cc/cv machine, im looking for a gas spool gun, any suggestions? and how /what would i need to run one?thanks for the input guys, any thing would help, heres a picture to help.https://post.craigslist.org/manage/2606804133

Reply:1) Variable voltage is Lincoln's old term for CC constant current. The inert gas setting is the TIG setting TIG stands for Tungsten inert gas.2) The spark control switch Turns the HF arc starter on. The start mode you only get HF to start the arc, after Weld arc is going it turns the HF off. used for DC TIG.Continuous mode is for AC TIG. You need the HF to keep the AC arc going. The HF comes from a spark gap radio frequency oscillator and is used to help the weld current jump from the Tungsten to the work. So you don't have to touch the tungsten to the work and contaminate the weld puddle.Off is used for stick welding.3) Stick and TIG welder only.
