Lately I've been doing more tig work just to get the practice mostly sch40 3-6" pipe some 1/2 plates for test but not much. MyMain setup is 3/32 thoriated tungsten 6cup at 15cfh on a 17series air cooled torch. I'm running out of consumables and want to place a somewhat bulk order soon. I'm curious what everyone's go to setup would be for the type of welding I do. I have 1/8" tungsten but the amperage chart say 150-2xx for 1/8 and I have no collets or diffusers. And my torch is only rated to 150ps I believe. The 3/32 tungsten seems to do everything I need it to anyway. Should I get #7 cups? I don't have any to try and haven't been having issues with the #6 cups unless I get a breeze in the shop. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:I use several different cup for getting in different spots. Sometimes you need a long cup or big short cup. I also use a 6 alot and 5. I don't even use 7 much but somtimes I do or I use bigger. If you can get to everything with your 6 just get them and a couple of other sizes too. Why not go water cooled?17 gets hot fast! I've never went over 200 amps on DC besides speed taking

Reply:Cut the tungsten in half with a 1/16 cutoff wheel on a 4.5 inch grinder. They splinter on me to and I have Mac dikes. I've whatched my Machinest do it a few times and it breaks clean for him he has snap on. I usually weld with 10 or 12 cfh with a 5 cup I never see sparks unless I hit something dirty. Btw you can fit a button on the back if you cut your tungsten in half
Reply:You mean thirds, right.
Reply:If you grind your tungstens in half/thirds using the corner of a wheel while rotating, you'll be halfway to a point, no frays, cracks..yada yada

Reply:Do you always you a button on the back?
Reply:Yup shortest ones you can get...Better torch balance and the end don't get in the way going into bores and whatever comes my way.......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
