Stop for Horizonal bandsaw?

Anyone made a cutting stop for a moveable band saw?

Reply:Yes, that is what I am wanting.  I want to cut a bunch of 5' pieces, I can do it pretty easy, but I want my students to cut the metal precisely.  I thought about building a bracket that bolts to the machine, and welding a piece of square tubing to the bracket.  Then using a sliding piece like a receiver hitch, with a set screw, (really a bolt with a T handle), I could slide the stop up and down on the tube, supporting the tube on my rolling stands.  I would need to make the top of the tube, even with the top of the stand.Did this make any sense?
Reply:Someone within the last week posted up picts of their bandsaw and it showed the stop fairly well. I just can't remember who posted it right now. It was pretty typical of others I've seen, a piece of round bar that slid thru holes in the saw stand, and a adjustable stop that pivoted out of the way. You slide the stock thru until it touches the stop, then clamp the stock and swing the stop down when cutting the piece..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:My 1987 Taiwan-built Enco 7 X 12 Horizontal Bandsaw came with a nice cutting stop. It uses a rod and a sliding stop that is secured with a screw. It works nicely and the parts will be the same length each time. Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
Reply:I think the OP is looking for a stop that will work at five feet from the blade.  The factory stop on my 7x12 goes maybe 18in.  Factory stop on the cold saw goes longer, 24-28+in, but neither goes 60in.DSW, I think it was Minnesota Dave who posted up a longer distance saw stop setup recently.  I thought it was in "Show us what you welded today" but no dice.Nice Feeder Cart, I have to make one of those.

Reply:DSW, that is just what I needed.  I can take some round rod , weld it to a plate, and unbolt it and store it in a corner when I am not using it.  We build enough tables and racks that it will be a big help.
